Oh comeon!!!! @&$! Gun Nac

So, I played Gun Nac on my buddies hacked nes mini and fell in love, one of the best nes games i've ever played...but its so damn expensive. Im just wondering what the best way to play is. Is the famicom version any different?

  • Im 99% sure the Famicom version is identical.

My local shop has a CIB one that I always look at but can't afford
  • Have you happened to play Space Megaforce on SNES? It's expensive as well, but it's the exact same gameplay. Way better.

But yeah, emulation is probably the way to go.

Isnt it like a sequel or something?

  • Kind of the same series. Gun-Nac is a parody type game. It's the closest one in the series to Space Megaforce. That's I've played anyway.
  • Such a great game! Shame it costs so much though.
  • Haha cruel! I'm going to have to sell a kidney
  • Get an everdrive
  • i have gun nac yet to sit down and play it
  • I think by default you have to sell it to me for failure to play within a week of owning a new game, party foul!
  • Dang! I didn't know that one was so high nowadays!!! Glad I bought that one back when it was still affordable, cost me a bit more than what the FC version goes for nowadays.

Also, it's most definitely the best shmup on the NES. If you don't care about the story/can read Japanese (There's hardly any text in this game in the FC version), I'd buy the Famicom version as it should set you back only $60, which is still $200 less than the US version

If you like Compile shooters like Gun Nac or Space Megaforce, I'd highly recommend Zanac or The Guardian Legend if you're on a budget, or Japanese versions of their shooters as those are usually much cheaper, even though they still aren't the cheapest carts around unfortunately, but they do the job saving you a few Franklins in case you just want to play the games.

    Play it. NOW!

    You won't regret it
  • Famicom Gun Nac only difference from the NES version is the intro/ending and the language used in the shop. I want a Famicom version.

It's basically Compile's version of Parodius.

    *shines own copy*
  • How is the intro different?
  • It's in Japanese rather than English
  • Famicom version is longer, has something to do with a girl. I don't know the specifics.
  • Oh, and I think that there might be a slight difference in one of the boss fights, but I can't remember what it was exactly.

"best"? is a matter of opinion   visually it is impressive. gameplay wise, depends what kind of shooters you like.

i havent played enough zanac. legend is way overrated, but it is similar.

i like 1943, twin cobra, alpha mission, star force.... oh and cap skyhawk
  • Zanac X Zanac, YES!

    Life Force

  • The US release of Gun Nac actually had a few more differences and was also censored a bit. In the JP version, one of the levels features cigarettes, matches, and lighters as enemies. Also a few boss/mini-boss fights were changed (human fetus -> alien, cute Japanese things -> robots). I reckon there's probably a few more differences, but it's been awhile since I've played. Great game though, good luck finding a copy!
  •  Just win one in fantasy football like I did
  • Man that is nuts. This should be a $20 game.
  • I'll buy your copy for $20.
  • Why do you say it should be 20? Personally, i think its one of the best games on NES.

Edit: Not to say that wouldn't be awesome... But I'd feel better spending like 200 on this than I would most other high dollar games.

    to hell with that game!

  • I hate captain skyhawk as the 2nd level or whatever where you have drop the packages or bombs into the square pisses me off as I ALWAYS miss that second one and have to fly the level all over just to fucking miss that bitch again.

Got a fair deal on my famicom gun nac cart which was about $30 shipped still beats the hell out the nes prices.

It is a lose game and not incredibly rare. A loose F2 or Little Sampson for $200 ok that I would understand  but not this.

Ive been collecting too long it seems,

  • Ha, you have.   Loose of either those games is 500-1000. You guys lived the good life.
  • Yeah, it's not 2006 anymore.
  • Oh, and I'm playing the game right now.   can't wait to post a score.
