Question about my Metal Storm cart not loading

This may be kind of a general question but wondering if somebody knows- I have a new 72 pin connector and have only put cleaned games in it. The other 10 or so games I have played start with no problems. But my Metal Storm game won't start when pushed in all the way. I get the blinking light. I have to pull it out just a bit for it to start. The game is cleaned and looks good on the pins.

Any ideas?

  • What did you clean the cart with?
  • Eraser and alcohol
  • When I pull it out a bit it starts and plays just fine.
  • White polymer eraser or the standard pink eraser? I've found that the polymer erasers do a better job of cleaning pins.
  • Standard pink one. I didn't know about the polymer eraser. I clean the pins a couple times with alcohol to make sure I get any film off after the eraser. Thanks for the idea.

What is it that's bad about using Brasso? I've used it on carts in the past and it works like a charm.

There is a recommended order for cleaning. Brasso is a last resort.

I hate using brasso mainly because the smell gets into my nose and doesn't go away. It's a strange metal-like smell that feels like... I dunno, like someone punched me in the nose and I smell my own iron in my blood. That's the closest thing I can relate it to. lol

It works so well because among other things it contains a very fine abrasive. The layer of gold metal on the pins is extremely thin so there is the risk of it being removed if relatively harsh methods of cleaning like Brasso are used often. This is why it's generally recommended as a last resort.
