Need help with arcade game

I recently purchased a Guerrilla War arcade game. I've had it for a few days now and everything was perfect until today. I'm not sure what happened, but now when I drop a quarter in, it just goes into the coin return area. I know nothing about repairing these, can anyone offer a suggestion?

  • Just set it to free play image Or you can just flip the little switch on the coin returns that reads when a quarter passes so you can get free credits.

  • It does that in both coin slots? Open the coin door and look at the actual coin mechanism. Drop a quarter through and watch how it travels through the mechanism and see if you can see any problems. Look for the thin piece of metal that looks like a bent paperclip. That is the switch and the quarter should trigger that switch to add a credit to the game. You can test this by moving the switch manually, and you should be able to add credits to the game that way. Im guessing your coin mech needs adjusted, or something in it is sticking causing it to not work properly.

Err, pretty positive Guerrilla War doesn't have a free play dip switch setting...

Is the coin door locked?  If you have the key, pop it open and follow the instructions that NES Dude suggested.  If not, and it's locked shut, you're going to have to drill out the locks.  Flack has a video on how it's done that can be found here:

He makes it look easy, but after having just drilled out 3 locks with my brother on our Aero Table, it can be easier said than done.  If you need help sourcing a new coin mech or barrel locks, shoot me a PM.  I also recommend picking up Rob's book, it's great for beginners.

    Good luck!
  • I have an extra coin mech, but it only takes yen image

Not to beat a dead horse here, but NESdude is point on. Give it a go, and let us know how everything worked out.

If one were to go through the trouble of drilling out the coin door anyway, wouldn't it be trivial to add a tact switch that triggered the coin mechanism while you had it all open?
  • Hey guys, I took NESdudes advice and everything worked perfectly. Thanks for all your help guys. I'm glad this game doesen't have a free play option. I love the sound of the quarter going through the machine. Thanks everyone for all your help!
  • Glad it worked out for you. I keep my PC-10 on coin play as well. The main reason though, is because in free play mode it just sits on the main menu and increases the chances of burn in on the monitor. When its set to coin play I get all the attract screens for all the games. Plus it just doesn't seem like an arcade cab if you dont have to keep dropping quarters. image

What?  No man, you keep that as close to factory specs as possible.  You need access to the stuff behind the coin door if you plan on having the machine for an extended period of time.  There is a ton of stuff back there that you just plain need access to.  If you were going to add a tact switch you may as well bastardize it all the way and MAME it out.  image

Most boards are going to have dip switch settings for free play (MVS mobos, most if not all CPS-II games, most PGM stuff, etc.) so adding a switch would be more trouble than it's worth.  I leave the keys in the coin door of all my cabs for several reasons:

    1.  You never lose your keys image
    2.  You can flip open the coin door to quickly and easily add credits
    3.  The power switch (and power supply) of my Egret 29 is  behind the coin mechs, so that's how I turn it on.
    4.  My Egret 29 and Egret 2 both have rotatable monitors.  No need to worry about vert games, I just spin the monitor and bezel.  Even better, they both have AUTO degauss buttons, so I can flip and play instantly.  Guess where the degauss button is image

This is all a non-issue as Nick obviously has access to the coin mechs, I was just simply pointing out an alternative to NGD's advice as his was inaccurate.
