He said they weren't well received. Which is highly incorrect. The albums sold incredibly well, and they got rave reviews from tons of magazines at release, what more is needed? Maybe you don't like them, and know people who shit talk them. But to say they factually suck and were not well received by millions of others is just stupid. Most of the hate came from their later CD's because they changed so much.

Why is this thread turning into this? The dude was a talented vocalist and he had a lot of demons. We don't know why he took his life but I don't think anybody makes that decision blindly.

He will be missed. I was a huge fan of their early stuff, Hybrid Theory & Meteora. I actually skipped out on a concert of theirs back in 2004 to meet up with a girl who is now my wife :-P. While I was never quite as fond of their new stuff, I never thought it was bad, just not the same. I've downloaded pretty much everything they have ever done and I am sad that I will not get to hear anything new from them ever again. RIP
I think it can be hard for people who don't have any mental illness or emotional trauma to understand the overwhelming, intense effects of those things on those who do. Makes suicide seem senseless and weak, but it's not like the victim ever makes the choice lightly or sanely, I imagine.
I got to see them I guess it was around 01' I think. I can't remember if it was the warped tour or ozzfest...... I took alot of lsd back then. Too many musicians are dying these days..... Sad, sad past couple of years we've had in the music industry.

Call me old, but I never liked getting with the times. I remember reading a Pojo unofficial DragonBall Z book while listening to Linkin Park so much during high school, that now when I see that book I think of the music. lol
Wha? What do you mean? I still like them and quite a few bands I discovered in middle school/high school. Actually, they weren't that bad of a band ever. Minutes to Midnight was an awesome album. I remember the night I bought it. And I'd drive around on back roads smoking and listening to it. I've been too busy with other music in the years since to give full albums a chance. Whenever I hear a song I think it's good. The shit I listen to you have to jump on it when it comes out or you miss it... so I keep my head in that trying to stay on top and actually being able to hear the music. You take this shit for granted because it's just there forever.
Saw these guys on Summer Sanitarium 2003 with Metallica, Limp Bizkit, Deftones and Mudvayne. They were pretty good live. I still remember getting their first album before they got huge.

Nu-metal is a tough genre. There a bunch of bands i think are great and sound original. And then there are a ton that just sound like overproduced mainstream garbage. A lot of goof bands get thrown out just because they are lumped into Nu-metal. Of course all just my personal opinion though.
I wonder how his bandmates will take it? They were extremely close friends and not just bandmates. I imagine they must have known something was wrong, but sometimes you can just never tell what someone is battling internally.
It's really sad, he was a tortured soul who endured years of sexual abuse as a child and turned to drugs and alcohol at an early age. He found solace like many others like him in music which allowed him to express that pain. This isn't shocking, he's in good company with many creative types who either chose to end their life or cut it short with drugs. In the end, it's all suicide, from Hemingway to Cobain. They are all missed, their suffering ended. The leave behind their art and live on thru it. Rest in peace Chester, you weren't given a fair chance to fight your demons. God bless his family and the six children he left this world.
