  • I used to collect baseball cards years ago. I have 1000's of them from the mid-late 80's and lots from the late 70's up to about 1993 or so. They are all packed away and haven't been touched in years. I had some cards worth a few hundred back then, no telling what they are work now....Maybe I should get a beckett and dig them out.

  • You'll laugh, but I'm a philatelist (stamp collector). I have a 5th generation collection that's fairly immense, with a massive amount of very old plate blocks, etc. I've been meaning to update it so I can pass it on to my children.

I used to also collect comics, 1960's action toys, and a few other random things.
  • Not sure about other sports cards, but baseball cards have gone down in value. The demand is pretty much dried up and add that with the fact that there are hundreds of different companies that produce them.

I have a ton of cards from middle to late '60's and they didn't sell as a lot on eBay for $10 - the lot included a Nolan Ryan 6th year and a rookie Paul Molitor and Robin Yount card. Craziness.

Maybe I'm completely mistaken but it seems like baseball cards have gone down in value.

    Be well -

  • I collect a few random things.

I am trying to get a complete set of the Topps X-Files comic books. I'm only missing around 8 or so.

I also collect records (vinyl) of my favorite bands. Luckily there isn't a 'set' so I don't have to feel the need to buy hundreds of them. image
  • I remember when I used to collect Beanie Babies, Pokemon cards and die cast vehicles. I made the mistake of holding on to them too long and before I knew it they were worth nothing. Now I collect coins other than video games.
  • I used to collect a bunch of different stuff which i had a large board game collection i gave to the salvation army..took up to much space. i have my football cards from 1972-73 and a few from the mid 70s
  • These are big to show detail. Clicky-pop. Didn't bother to lay out every dual land set, whatever you get the idea image

  • Nice collections guys! I collect 50's and 60's Topps baseball. Like someone said above, most baseball cards aren't worth much these days, thanks to the over saturation of the market starting in the early 80's, so when i was a kid, I sold all of that stuff, and started buying the old guys. I remember around 1988 you could pick up a Mickey Mantle rookie for $5000 in excellent condition. That same card might go for 10x that today.
  • I collect complete collections of video games.
  • I just started collecting Playboy magazines.  I have every issue from 199 to present.  I was at the flea market last weekend, and bought 2 issues from 1970.  Now, I decided I want every issue ever printed!  I've been looking at lots on eBay...
  • damn Jared. I just recently sold about 75 issuses at a garage sell just to get rid of them....

    Holy hairy bush batman!

  • I collect autographs from all sports from all years.  I presently have about 2,500 to 3,000.  I have quit collecting autographs for the last couple months to build my nes collection.

    Your not kidding!!

  • Jared... is this so you can track the demise of pubic hair from the girls that had buckwheat in a leg lock to the girls of today that are smooth as a baby's bottom?

really, a temp at my work is looking to get rid of his collection.

what issues you need? pm me a list, ill pass it on to him.
  • i used to collect hockey cards, football cards and basketball cards (1989-1993), and like MLN said, these to used to be worth a bunch of money. I have a shit load in storage, but it is not really worth pulling them out.

    maybe in 50 years?

Thats one of the reasons.  This may sound cliche, but the articles ARE interesting.  It's neat to read the articles from back then and look at the adds and interviews and stuff.  I could have collected any old magazine for that, but Playboy has the added bonus of naked chicks!
  • As for me, I own collections of sports cards (about 6000 total...would like to sell cheap), Magic cards (10,000+ total...also would like to sell), and stamps (one binder...would probably sell for, like, $20 shipped) PM me for details if interested in any of these >. I used to be very active with collecting each of those, as well as collecting coins and currency from around the world. In fact, I guess one could say these years defined when I was at least reasonably active collecting what:

    Summer 1991-Fall 1998: sports cards

    --branches of sports cards:
    ----Spring 1991-Fall 1998: baseball cards
    ----Spring 1995-Fall 1998: football cards
    ----Summer 1997-Winter 1997: hockey cards
    ----Summer 1997-Spring 1998: basketball cards
Winter 1991- Fall 2005: coins and currency

    Spring 1992-Summer 1996: stamps

    Summer 1994- Winter 1997: books

    Summer 1997- Spring 1999, Spring 2002-Spring 2004: Magic cards

    Summer 2002-present: video games
    --branches of video games:
    ----Summer 2002-Spring 2007: RPGs
    ----Winter 2006-present: shmups
----Spring 2007-present: NES games and related items
  • Sadly I'm in the process of selling off my Magic cards as well, I'm keeping everything in those two pictures; my permanent collection (I still play Type 1 from time to time) as well as about 500 other "essentials" for random deckbuilding in a box. But my whole store stock of 1-4 of each rare and 1-8 of each uncommon from Fallen Empires thru Time Spiral is in the process of being sold to another investor looking to try their hand at the store thing. It's a lot of cards image And even more sick, they're all in absolute alphabetical order. They fill 1/2 a closet currently.
  • Gah... I've allways been a collector, so I've got "big" collections of videogames, stamps, records (vinyl), cds, dvds, comics, coins, Scalextric, Märklin, and the list goes on...

As for records, cds and dvds I only buy what I want to see/listen to.

The rest of my collections have been 'on hold' for many years, except videogames.
  • Motorcycles,

At one time this year I had 5 of them.

I like to restore snotty old bikes. Check out my motorcycle blog:

  • I have sooo many baseball cards from the 80s, pretty much stopped before the strike happened. Got some pretty expensive (for the time) Pete Rose cards image Also have a stamp collection somewhere, and coins too. All this is from when I was a kid with no money so it probably isn't worth anything but its interesting stuff.

Right now I have a collection of bikes and old computers but that isn't on purpose!
  • shame of collecting is when i was little football cards were 5 cents a pack now what there 3 to 5 dollars and no gum
  • Most of the things I used to collect are gone. Comics, and autographs and GPKs. All comics and GPKs of any value are gone but I do still have a 2 page notorized document Kurt Cobain signed giving POA to his lawer to purchase the house he later died in.

  • i do also have a stamp collection from when i was a kid. lol i have thousands of em i bet....
