Some companies do from time to time. Most send annual reports at the minimum.

I used ING when it was new.  They used to pay 5% interest on their SAVINGS accounts, which was insane.  I think it was a marketing tool, because they slowly lowered it every few months until it was on par with brick and mortar banks.

They are still a great "hub" bank account, since their interface is so clean and they let you push and pull funds for free (many banks won't let you "push" for free).

Also, they let you generate as many "account numbers" as you want, so they integrate really nicely with designated savings goals on a site like Mint.

I had the impression their bank was separate from the brokerage, though.

I miss the days of the 5% interest on the ING savings.  For about 2 years, I would take the 30k limit or whatever it was back then on the checks credit card companies offer with 1 year no interest...put it in an ING account and then pay the min every month with that same money.  So the money sat for a year in the ING account gaining interest, then I would pay off the balance from the account before the interest hit and keep all the profit.  I did that for about 2 years.  I didnt make a ton, but it was easy money to just shuttle some funds around.

So you made, what, $1500? Not bad for shuffleing some funds, but wouldn't that tie up your credit?

Yea about $1500.  Just for moving some money around.  I did it on a card where I had a 50k limit, so it wasnt a concern...and financially and credit wise I was ok and didnt need to worry about that.  It was just a way to add some income without doing any work.

  • You can buy some nice games with $1500

Prior to the modern days of Ebay I know collectors would do something like this sort of thing with Playboy. I think the printed shares which they used to issue had a nude woman printed on it?
