I think people are also forgetting that warehousing isn't in their business plan. If they can sell through quickly and dont have to pay to own a large storage facility that's a cost savings.
Which is at least one of the reasons why most business things are going digital...
I was able to score the limited and standard editions. I don't really want them for the value they're fetching online. So if anyone has quality SNES/NES games they scored for cheap this summer and would like to trade I'd be down. I'm looking for equivalent value for what they're going for on eBay currently.

Man I wish I had a good trade pile for you cus I'd be all over the CE; really wish to have been able to use the money I set aside to buy it at retail
The first game i've missed that i tried to get and it had to be Night Trap
No problems with Soldner or any of the other 2016 releases that sold out in minutes. No problems with Dariusburst or Wonderboy collectors editions. But night trap? Guess my luck had to run out eventually.
Oh well. I went ahead and bought the PC release. Technically the smallest print run, plus i get a steam code so i can play it next tuesday and that's pretty neat. But boy did i want that cool collectors edition...
I guess i got lucky for this one...the night trap CE was not there so i went and bought both games for ps4 as i always try to do and it went smooth. Then i clicked continue shopping and the CE was there. So i did a second transaction with success for the night trap CE. I was sure there was no way i would be able to make 2 different transactions with success but i did and on my phone again
There's the DRM free 25th Anniversary Night Trap for PC that as of this morning (1:45 AM) there's about 50% left in stock for about $35 if anyone wants one.
I enjoy the damned if they do damned if they don't nature. Produce too much no one wants it, make too little and people freak out. You'd imagine people would be more understanding of short stock from a company called LIMITED Run Games.

Agreed, the up and down nature of the fanbase is extremely gross.
And to clarify they currently have no system in place to make that true.
That's interesting, as soon as they make their games less limited, they Instantly become less desireable. They do that and it's the begining of the end for them. The mainstream popular games are the jewels of people's collections. The Oddworld games, the Shantaes, Wonderboy, and Night Trap wouldn't be coveted at super high print runs, they'd be more of the same. I dunno, we'll se what they do but I don't like the smell of it. That said, can we get Cosmic Star Heroine already....or just physically on Switch will do.

I don't think that's true for everyone...if I watch a trailer of a game and I like it...I'm going to get it. I don't get it because it's limited. I get it because it's a physical release of a digital game and I hate buying digital only games. Excluding all the Steam games I own...lol.
LRG COULD make more games...and still be limited. Instead of 2,000 or 3,000 copies...make 5,000...means 5,000 chances to get a game. I think that's fair. It's still limited.

Night trap has a 5K production run correct?
They did? Didn't notice that...just looked...the normal edition is 5k, CE is 3k. But they usually are 2 or 3k...I've noticed it before and always wondered why don't they make more? They'll sell out just as quickly.

I see what you guys are saying. Talked to some guys on LRG forums to confirm:
"They saw that 100 CEs were placed in carts already prior to the sale, which means those people were basically cheating by using exploits to get an edge on purchasing, so they removed the listing temporarily right before putting the game for sale. It was put back up, but it's possible that the listing didn't reappear for you due to cookies and cache data.
The good news is that there will be a 2nd sale this afternoon. Hopefully you'll be able to purchase it then."
So the LRG guys are trying to do what's right, which is good. But no matter what they try to prevent this, since there's asshats out there that don't like to play by the rules, it still unfaily makes it bad for others who wanted one.
Unfortunetely, no matter what they do, there will always be more angry people than happy. But they had to know this going into the business. The Missouri Game Con (Mo Game Con) is this weekend and the LRG guys will be there. If I can make it, I'm looking forward to meeting some of them.
Awesome if you can meet one of them.
I suppose that's with any business, you're gonna get someone who would rather do something wrong and not play by the rules.
I won't fault LRG for trying, they are at least doing what they can to prevent such things, despite the futility. If anyone's to blame, it's the people who again are doing something they're not supposed to be doing, which is causing LRG to take action and thus casing confusion and many out what's fairly theirs.
I did get to meet some of the LRG guys this past weekend including Doug, one of the co-founders. I sat in on their panel. Doug is definitely a good guy, and I believe that he is doing what he can to benefit the hobby. They are working on ways to better project demand which would allow them to potentially increase their game quantities, while still keeping the total amount "limited."
I also found out that ESRB ratings are coming to all game releases soon (Deemo has been the only one so far). It's sort of ironic that Night Trap will be one of the last games they release without an ESRB rating.

Wait, why do they need a ESRB rating? ESRB is for a suggested retail consumer market, not a collector's one.
Not that I'm complaining, that just means we may have other methods of getting the games other than the scalpers from Ebay (Like possibly used ones at Gamestop since they can only have a modern game in their API if it has an ESRB on it. Last I check, no Gamestop takes in LRG games)

It's gonna seriously piss me off when Ys Origins comes out on LRG and I miss out.
If that happens at least the Asian physical release is also in English.

True.
A ton of butthurt on social media about Night Trap. Boy I don't envy LRG, they probably have to hear so much complaining.
It's kind of funny but they'll announce on Twitter when they're walking away from Social Media for the day directly following a popular release.

I'm looking forward to how the Japanese will react. No sign of any physical release in Japan.
But we can assume since even the western digital version includes Japanese, LRG's release is going to keep it.
