NTSC game on PAL console

Hello,

Recently I did get some of NTSC games like Ninja Gaiden 1&2 and Ghost'n'Goblins that are NTSC versions of the game.

I
have PAL version of NES console and I did sucssesfuly locked-out NES
lockout chip that prevented me from playing NTSC games on my PAL
console.

But I did notice that NTSC games run littlebit slower and that music is slower and somewhat diffrent.

I just wanted to ask:

1. Is this normal and what is causing it?

2. Any way to fix it or make it work or it's just the way it's gotta be?

3. Does it has something to do with my TV or TV dosen't have any effect on how game runs (either NTSC or PAL NES games)?

Thank you

  • It is known that many NTSC games behave different on PAL system. Some are slower some are faster. I know that NTSC Super Mario Bros. plays slower on PAL, so there is nothing wrong with your tv... So far I know there is no fix for that.
  • It's normal and doesn't have to do with your TV.
PAL runs at 50 hz and NTSC at 60 hz so if you play a NTSC game on a modified PAL console the game play and music will go slower.
I do not know if there is any way to fix it. If it possible, it's probably not very easy.
  • You can fix it by playing around with the processor and trying to overclock it to run at 60 mhz and put a switch in for it, but its more work than its worth. image  Plus its easy to kill systems, i've killed 3 Genesis trying to overclock them, I really want to overclock my Saturn but I haven't had the guts to.
  • I know what to do:

Get an american NES. I hate to use modified systems så I use original when I want to play games from other parts of the world.

Got Snes from Sweden, SFC from Japan and Snes from USA. So long convetrers.

I do on the other hand accept clocking if you want to play games such as Turles 3 and River City Ransom with 2 players or if you want to play Contra Force at all. And there is one more: The AV mod for the original version of Famicom. I am planning to get one. Thats because I consider the AV Famicom so ugly. The only benefit is the possibility to use NES controllers.
