The coolest thing in all of this is that my dad picked mine up from GS so when he brought it home and I plugged it in he looked at it and said "that's it?" Then I turned it on and he was mesmerized by all the games and the memories started to flood back to him. He said he is definitely going to get one (despite not having a system since the SNES itself). And then started telling me stories about how he'd come home from work and play SMW for hours. How my parents (mainly him) bought it for my older brother for Christmas when he was 2. Basically that he bought it for himself! Haha.
He also said that CastleVania IV was another one of his favorites after I scrolled over it and also that he "couldn't ever figure that Zelda one out."
I've got my money's worth already that's for sure.
That's great. I hope he gives Zelda another shot and beats it.
That's a good story, this little machine is a good nostalgia trip. I felt like this was Christmas 1993 when i got my snes and Supermarioworld,Super Empire Strikes Back and super nova.
They eliminated the flash from Squawks the parrot in the Torchlight Trouble stage of Donkey Kong Country. Probably overly concerned about triggering epileptic seizure.
Makes me wonder if it was a ROM hack, a game-specific tweak in the emulator, or a system-wide video processing filter.
I would assume we have the wiiu rom of earthbound too.
It looks better in person, i will frame that sometime soon. Today is a great day for me, after i get that retro gamer 172 my snes collecting days are over. 11 years, only two regrets and both were my fault for not knowing anything about EVO/Hagne. Could have got them for $20 each back in 2008.
I’m glad you had a great day, bud. I know how much you were looking forward to this launch. Congrats!
I'm thinking of making a poll to see if whoever wanted one, and put in the effort to get one, actually got one on release versus the people that genuinely tried and could not find one.

Make the poll, finding out the number of pre-orders vs the number of people who stood out in line would be interesting.

Don't forget the people that wanted one, but were too lazy and too full of bullshit excuses to bother trying to get one, so they just blame Nintendo.

okay I have to stop my sarcasm meter can’t go any further but I remember reading something similar to this somewhere a page or two back.
Here in Salem NH every place was sold out within 20 minutes.
I was hoping to snag one or two for you guys on here since i live a block from target, best buy, and GS. But none of them had a single classic left. I hope you guys are able to get them to those who actually want one.
I forgot about the release until yesterday morning. I didn't have to work until 10 A:M so i left a little early thought hey i figure i'll stop at walmart and see what happens fully expecting to not get one. On the way i passed gamestop with about 10 people in line so i figured i definitely wouldn't get one. So i go in and stop at the electronics and waited about 5 minutes with nobody around whatsoever. Finally i went to the photo center and saw an employee holding one and and so i asked him if there were any more or if that ship had sailed. He said that was the last one and he was going to pay for it then. Not too bummed i guess, didn't really expect to get one. I started talking to him since we were going the same direction. Last year my local Target got freaking two minis and the crowd of people waiting there flocked over to Best Buy where they had already passed out 25 vouchers to the30+ standing in line. I was number 9 iirc. I was in the Best Buy line from the start (which opened one hour later than Target) and grabbed my ticket and had breakfast before they opened, then passed by the vultures outside to claim my prize...
This year I have a full time job that starts at 8am so it's a bit more complicated.
I plan on hanging outside the Target store in the early morning shortly before daybreak. Around 730, I'll call in to tell my supervisor I had car trouble and am running late. I should be able to clock in by 820 or so, 830 at the latest, and I haven't been late to work once since I started there in late July. Not the best strategy on the planet but sure beats eBay scalpers, and I think I can afford one "point" and be okay.

Stars were still out when I started waiting outside target. Air felt nice until the sun came out. And I was fist in line getting there ariund 545. More people didn't start showing up until 730.
I called in as planned around 740 with "car troubles." At time of opening they had 30 minis and about mid teens of people in line. We made it back to the electronics in an orderly fashion. I checked out and drove to work. However before I left the parking lot I couldn't help but notice the line that formed in front of Best Buy. I opened the sun roof of my car waiving the SNES Mini in the air while slowly coasting by, honking my horn once or twice to make sure they noticed. Arrived at work about 815 and clocked in. My supervisor got the memo about being a couple minutes late so no "points" were taken off. Only two of my coworkers know I got the snes mini and they are sworn to secrecy. I had to really try hard not to gloat all day about my loot.
After work it was off to join a group of cyclists Friday evening so it was after 9 when I got home. No chance to post until now.

I got my first crack at the SNES Mini this afternoon. First play was Super Mario RPG. I have been a longtime fan of the game, but sadly my old save file on my SNES copy erased after I was knocking the door to Smitty's Castle. I had unlocked the pathway to Crulex too and was planning on tackling him after Smitty. Sadly in 2012 I shelved the cart, and by 2015 my save was erased...
Good news I get to start a new replay and it really is an excellent game. I played to Mushroom Kingdom and saved before I entered the great hall. Next up I played some Yoshi's Island, beat the first stage, then onto Super Mario World, got the Switch palace and beat Iggy in Castle #1. Not sure which path I will take from there. Probably the long route instead of the star road. Next up was Kirby Super Star, played through the first mode where the snacks got stolen from Dreamland. Only seven stages to beat the game? I expected more LOL. Also Dedede was a pushover spamming him the bomb ability, but very difficult if you approach him unarmed. Too bad Dreamland 3 wasn't included as that game is hard to find unless you import a Japanese copy. Next onto Zelda Link to the Past, rescued Xelda and exit the castle. From there some Donkey Kong Country, beat the first stage easily, then died stupidly in the rainy stage. I didn't get to the save station regrettably. Tried and failed to unlock the first stage of Starfox to unlock Starfox 2, but I was getting tired at this point so I turned it off. I also tried Street Fighter II Hyper Fighting. Not quite as good as the ports I have for Genesis, PCe, and Switch, but oh well. I'm glad they included something.

I'm working on a similar Famicom Family photo. I was going to wait until I had the Super Famicom mini to go with my Super Famicom, but...

These type of stories restore my faith in humanity. Enjoy it man! I got mine from Walmart as well! Don't usely shop there but have had good luck with the electronics department the last few times.

There's was a Nintendo fan working in electronics at my local Walmart, but he wasn't working on the day of NES Classic launch nor SNES Classic.
Instead, it was the same woman who kept sending people away on the night of Thursday 11/10, telling them incorrectly that NES CE was launching on Saturday 11/12.
Unfortunately no, I have yet to pick up a SNES classic. From what I'm seeing so far, it looks like there was plenty of units that went up for sale but Just just a borderline bunch of assholes selling them for more than MSRP on eBay, Craigslist and Offer Up. I didn't pick one up cuz I don't get paid till this Friday and tbh my payschedule is bi-weekly anyways. So if I can't get one for MSRP, then I won't even bother because quite frankly I'm disgusted on seeing people sell the SNES classic for more than the retail price. What held me off too is I won a OG SNES Super Set boxed a month or two ago and what I mainly wanted the SNES classic is for Mario RPG, SOM, Starfox 2 and Kirby Superstar. All the rest I've played the crap out of and I've beaten FFIII a few years back so yea.... I didn't pick one up but plan on it if I can
I've just checked on Ebay, and currently there are 3000+ sellers of SNES minis! You can understand why Nintendo are reserved in making more SNES mini. From their angle, there probably really isn't an under-supply but more so the scalpers/investors jumping on board and buying supplies in loads, which then causes a relative high demand by consumers (people who want to buy to play).
Word to scalpers of SNES mini: stop being idiots and sell them at decent prices!
According to the main reddit thread, the guys behind the NES version of Hakchi2 are working on it. They are working on some other features as well and want to make sure it's relatively brick-proof before releasing it. It's coming, just a matter of patience

I dunno if i would hack mine but i will let other people be the lab rats first.
I still think dreamcourse should have been replaced with something else like Cybernator.

Oh yea, those of us who are adults and work for a living with an early shift are REALLY too lazy because we didn't wait in like instead of going to work. Yea that's it! Screw those lazy people!

Right now, mine is in a secure location guarded by top men.
Ebay prices have already depreciated to the point to question whether its worth selling it in the first place.

I told him how i missed out on the nes classic and eventually he said you know what, are you buying it now or putting it on layaway? I told him that i would have just bought it that day. Then he said...take this one. I'm like no it's really not that big of a deal. He said they were going to get more eventually so no worries and told me to "enjoy buddy". I COULDN'T BELIEVE IT. PRETTY AWESOME! All that being said I HATE WALMART so for that to happen was surprising to say the least.
Word to scalpers of SNES mini: stop being idiots and sell them at decent prices!
So anyone hack this thing yet or what?
According to the main reddit thread, the guys behind the NES version of Hakchi2 are working on it. They are working on some other features as well and want to make sure it's relatively brick-proof before releasing it. It's coming, just a matter of patience

I dunno if i would hack mine but i will let other people be the lab rats first.
I still think dreamcourse should have been replaced with something else like Cybernator.
I'm thinking of making a poll to see if whoever wanted one, and put in the effort to get one, actually got one on release versus the people that genuinely tried and could not find one.
Don't forget the people that wanted one, but were too lazy and too full of bullshit excuses to bother trying to get one, so they just blame Nintendo.
Oh yea, those of us who are adults and work for a living with an early shift are REALLY too lazy because we didn't wait in like instead of going to work. Yea that's it! Screw those lazy people!
I will say it again it needed Ken Griffey Jr. Presents Major League Baseball
It would have to be Mr. Dream Presents.
