What Game Did you Just Complete?

I thought it might be nice to have a thread, and very short thoughts/reviews, on games we finished -and by finished, I meant completed from start to finish

I just finished the remake to Wonder Boy!

20171003_182524

The remake is really fabulous! The graphics are gorgeous. The music is gorgeous. The play control is attrocious... I really wish they fixed the play control, but otherwise, it's still really fun! Very short game. Just a few hours (on normal), but still quite fun. There's really nothing bad I can say about this, other than the play control. Another game I finished recently (review later) was Rise of the Tomb Raider. I actually enjoyed Wonder Boy more! Also, some really cute, well I'm not sure "Easter Egg" is the correct term, but really cute "moments" such as in my pic above

  • Trog.

It is... interesting, but easy and gets boring fast since it is quite repetitive.

The enemy AI is entirely too predictable too.
  • Cuphead... I came, I saw, It kicked my ass then I kicked it's ass!
  • Star Fox 2

    it was glorious
  • Bayonetta 2

Easier than the first (don't think I died at all). Enjoyable.
  • Last game i finished was Monster Tale for DS! Really great metroid style game. Definitely recommend playing it if you havent. Had just finished Samus Returns before that and it made me want more of that style gameplay and i was flippin through my DS carts an remembered i'd only played a bit of it. Restarted in and beat in 2 days! Gets a little challenging but overall fun. Only gripe would be i felt there was a lot of back tracking just to pad the game out a bit. I know its common in these style games but it felt a little excessive at times, especially after having just played Samus Returns which spoiled me with a fast travel option. Still a sweet game though!

Currently playing through Cuphead which is Amazing! On the 2nd to the last boss i think which is hard. Waiting for my cousin to come back over to finish it. Been playing Matterfall alongside that which i think is awesome! Great gameplay and music and everything. A little hung up on the 3rd boss but will probably give it another try tonight. Still working on Ys VIII also, around 25 hours in and still really enjoying it! Story is starting to get a little more involved and still loving the gameplay. Also been playing Puzzle Quest on DS. Really fun Puzzle/RPG! Been pretty hooked on it and have put around 20hours in since beating Monster Tale!
  • New Super Mario Bros Wii 100% complete.

I got this for Christmas when it came out but I was never really into it. Since then, I've become obsessed with completing Nintendo games 100%. Right now I'm on a Mario kick. I had previously done Nsmb, nsmbu, and nslu. so this was next. I ended up having a ton of fun playing for all the star coins and finding the secret exits. The game is a solid Mario platformer. I'm not a fan of the powerup panel minigames though. I love my Wii U so playing this and getting the best picture quality through it was a bonus. It's pretty jagged up close but it kinda has a charm. I grew up with the GameCube and then Wii and was never really satisfied with the Wii. I'm now into it and am looking forward to Nintendo games I've missed. I've got to find a copy of and play Kirby return to dreamland next.
  • Magic Johnson's Super Slam Dunk and RapJam Volume 1 because I'm a sadist

I'd rate both above Jammit but below similar Jam games.  But not Barkley Shut Up and Jam

And here I thought I loved pain and suffering and you go and beat those two games in a row.

    I am impressed.

  • The recent would be both Star Fox 2 and Star Fox (which I hadn't finished in probably 10 years or more.) Before that I took down weeks ago Maru's Mission on Gameboy and that's a fun little adventure from the ninja jajamaru collection of titles.

Star Fox was a good as I recall it was so it wasn't as big to finish though I almost got it perfect as I was off by a percent. Star Fox 2 was a rush. I got used to the beta as I've had that on a cart for years now and not having that charged seeking blast made the game a bit more complex and challenging even on normal mode. The first go through Corneria took a hit but otherwise I didn't goof and came out with a D+ as I missed C by a bar. A day later I took a swing at it again using Fox both times but the second day Falco instead of Miyu and I got a middling C with no damages and a faster time and that was truly enjoyable.

The gameboy game though it's not that terribly hard at all it's more of a fun guilty pleasure type game where you can breeze through and enjoy the goofiness value of it all. They give out a weapon that hurts the boss pretty bad taking out a mid-boss and anything you kill leaves a spirit ball that floats off but if you get it you get some health back so not much thought is needed to win at it.

Right, I beat them to share the experience with all of you

  • the only person who suffered pain was you for playing those games

Maybe I'm figuring out which games are gonna be in next April's (fools) month for the contest smart guy!

  • Colin McRae Rally 3.

Random game to beat, but it is really, really good.

Controls were a bit slippery, but the PS2 version is great.

Moving onto 04 next when I have time, although I've heard the Xbox version has better graphics.
  • Assassin's Creed 2
  • AD&D Heroes of the Lance on NES! The full review will come up on my blog eventually, but it's definitely a bad game like most people say it is. It has the most confusing map of any game I've ever played, and most of the game is completely trivial fluff. The controls are bad as are the graphics, but it does have some good music. It's a surprisingly short game too. It took me around 4 hours to beat it, and then I beat it again in about 20 minutes.
  • Thimbleweed Park on Switch.

    Absolutely loved it!
  • Just bought a PSP go and played thps2. Picked Andrew Reynolds and 100% career mode. Definitely nostalgic , especially the music and movies at the end of the game. The PSP go is awesome... Can't believe it runs PS 1 games so well for the most part. Great emulation device.
  • Finished 2 last night for NES:

Felix the Cat, which is good. Levels are a bit long and repetitive, but you can rush through them if you're not too concerned with accumulating lives.

Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade (the Ubisoft one) is bad. A double threat of being a movie tie-in as well as a computer-to-NES port. Barf.
  • Chip 'n Dale 2. I played the first one to death as a kid. I didn't think this one was as good. Not sure if it's nostalgia or what. Some of the bosses aren't hard, just kind of tedious. I still love the tight controls, how fast you can move through the levels, and chucking boxes.

I'd put it on the same level as Felix. I also think Felix gets repetitive and the platforming is a little bland. I think that game has a bit too much "hidden gem hype" behind it.

I really like the original Rescue Rangers, more than Duck Tales even. Gotta play that again sometime

  • Talos Principal on ps4. Not that hard but decently challenging. Absolutely chock full of easter eggs, it pays to look everywhere (game was made my croteam who made serious sam, so should not be a suprise). Overall pretty enjoyable it kept me hooked.
  • Lili on the PS4. It's cute, and very short. Recommended for a quick RPG adventure with collectables, or something for the family/kids. There are some teeny tiny dark moments, but they're not heavy enough to scare anybody (quite frankly, they'd probably fly over a kid's head.)
  • I just beat Paper Mario and The Thousand Year Door for the first time about 20 minutes ago. I can finally say, that this is probably my favorite game of all time. I got this game when I was a kid, and was never able to beat the Palace of Shadow. But now, I beat the shadow queen, screw that battle, she just regens so much health throughout the battle!
  • I have beaten Bill Laimbeer's Combat Basketball on the SNES yesterday.

And all I have to say about it is... WHY? JUST FUCKING WHY?
  • Conquest of the crystal palace. I enjoyed it, fun game!
  • Samus Returns the other week and just the other night Tokyo Beat Down. Both kick ass
  • Most recent beat was Metal Slug 7 on the DS. Such a good/tough game

I'm currently working on Pokemon Alpha Sapphire for 3DS and Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild on Wii U. I'm trying to find all 120 shrines on my own without looking up anything. I have experienced minor tricks/spoilers because: the internet. I'm currently up to 106 shrines and starting to really hit a wall. I still haven't gone to fight Ganon or even in Hyrule Castle for that matter but it's starting to turn in to too much of a time sink but I'm still going without cheats for now
  • Splatoon 2, about the same as Splatoon 1 really, but still fun. I'd buy Splatoon 3 if/when it comes out. I don't usually have a bunch of time for the multiplayer mode, so an even longer campaign mode would be great. It definitely has replay don't get me wrong, I just want more stages to replay.
