Do you collect from other regions?

And if so does it matter wich ones? Japan ofcourse has their own style on boxes and games but lets say the game is German or French with all the adds and stuff are you going to want it? In my case i do have a preference for GB games or consoles (the only thing that wasn't slower in PAL regions, i refuse inferior products even if it isn't played) for SCN stuff but still like the American releases, maybe the Japense ones slightly more when there is an option. German/French/Netherlands on a step below but i still appreciate those aswell.

  • I honestly don't mind if it's a game from a different region, if I can get it cheap and I'll enjoy it then I'm happy  .
  • I don't mind getting Gameboy games from another region but I'll immediately replace it if I find the same title from North America. I prefer NA releases for all my games.
  • I collect Japanese stuff. Haven't got into PAL, not sure I ever will
  • I collect from all, but I dont go out of my way for import versions unless it's something special. Like Pool of Radiance on famicom uses the same gold box that the computer versions used, only smaller, so that was a cool one. I also wouldn't say no to british computer games, but I'm not going to look for them.
  • Only NA stuff for me. Im not a fan of different shaped carts/colors/ label art that i didnt grow up with
  • Yep, Japan. Especially Famicom. Carts have more personality than our drab grey ones, plus the US high end games are usually much cheaper
  • I like famicom disk system games but not a whole lot more. I haven't jumped into PAL because I haven't found a reason to yet. However, I think I'm going to get a PAL copy of Mario & Luigi Superstar saga if something like that exists.
  • Japan imports yes, no for PAL stuff; not even PAL-exclusives.

    what about games from india?
  • I have usa, jp, and Eu games
  • I have some simple rules I follow:

Available in NA? That's the version I'll get.

Not available in NA? Available in EU and compatible with my hardware? EU it is! (the only game I have so far that's landed here is Parodius on the NES)

Only available in JP? Well I guess that's the one I'm buying!
  • Yes. I'll collect pretty much anything of a few game series. Right now I'm attempting to collect all worldwide Final Fantasy XII releases for the PS2. Got most of them but a few of them are proving to be quite elusive.
  • I have quite a few Japenese shoot em ups, mostly Saturn stuff and a few pal games, mainly rpgs.
  • I have Japanese games for series that I collect for. I also have European releases of portable exclusives, especially PSP and Gameboy.
  • I have a bunch of imported NES/Famicom, Game Boy, and GameCube games. If a game came out in both Japan and Europe (such as Kuru Kuru Kururin), I import the PAL release. I usually just buy exclusives, but occasionally import games that were also released in North America (such as Kirby's Dream Land).
  • Yup. I like to dabber a little in everythang

India isn't a separate region but it is classified as PAL. All the Sony and Microsoft games are PAL over here. Nintendo doesn't have an official presence so you can find games of all regions but mostly NTSC and PAL. There are a handful of games made specifically for the Indian market on the PS2 but I don't collect Sony and Microsoft games.
  • Ill buy region free shmups on the 360 that are pal and ntsc j if they didn't get a us release.
  • Fun famicom exclusives.

And a few fami games that have advantages over the NES versions.

Which version of Final Fantasy XII for the PS2 did you get?  The UK English release or anything in the Indian language?

  • Oh man, a thread made for me! *Without* using eBay, I've imported directly from Japan, Taiwan, China, Hong Kong, Denmark, Germany, the UK, Italy, Spain, France, and Australia. I've shopped in person for retro games in Japan, Germany, the Czech Republic, and the Netherlands. Brazil has been a major holdout, I've had a lack of luck being able to import any Tectoy goodness.

I love the challenge of trying to figure out methods to buy rare stuff from foreign countries. I've managed to put together 3/4ths of an A'Can fullset, while almost zero A'Can games have been available on eBay. My most recent purchase were 4 Game Master consoles from Taiwan, a system most people haven't even seen. Its fun to find and learn about consoles you'd never heard of, until you saw them available for purchase!

    Importing is my jam!

I've learned a bunch importing Final Fantasy XII from Europe.  Germany and France have some fast shipping.  Took forever to get my package from Spain.

  • I really only stick with US releases (not even Canadian releases of games like Mattel Zelda). However, the exception is Chrono Trigger. I have an SFC version CIB, the prerelease ROM CIB, and the Chinese bootleg CIB.
  • I will buy some Japanese versions if the us release is expensive. Also it has been fun checking out famicom disk system stuff.

I am going to be in Europe next spring Nd I hope to find some physical exclusives for some region free consoles.

    Pics of the Chinese bootleg?

  • Yup I collect and play famicom, and i will buy JP/EU imports of PS4 physical that are interesting like Super Meat Boy, Matterfall and Gravity Rush 1
  • Famicom/Disk System exclusives, advantages, or are cheaper. I don't get the same level of satisfaction as I do with standard NES collecting mostly, but it's nice to save money overall, do research, and practice my Japanese. I also have imports for GB, GBA, DS, SFC, Master System, and Mega Drive. Have bought from the U.K., Germany, Chile, Russia, and have been overseas to Japan.

Even if you're not into importing, I'd recommend everyone to watch GameCenter CX or check out the FDS Guidebook from HG101.

Sure thing! It's a Famicom demake of the game. I've got pictures of every page in the manual, too, if you're interested in them. I can't read Chinese, so I have no idea what anything says.

  • I do and have for like 20 years. I don't have a lot of it anymore other than some Famicom, Gamecube, and Gameboy type stuff though, but some of it has some decent value like Trip World for one. I do have a few NGPC, and NeoGeo titles too from Japan. The FC stuff is Japanese and the Gameboy branded stuff is both Japan and Europe. I've got one Japanese Switch title as well because only they got it on physical media.

I don't really want to get into making a list but I probably have like 20-30 imports. As long as they're fun and I can play them I'll seek things out I care to play around with wherever it may have come from.
