  • Be interesting to see. But if they can't get Tetris, it'll be a bit of a let down.
  • I called that shit.

Agreed with Tulpa though, Tetris is an absolute must
  • I will definitely want two of these, one for me and one for my wife. I hope this is a real thing.

And yes, Tetris is a MUST!
  • I'd get one just so when it was hackable I'd have a portable NES.
  • I would not mind buying one, why not?

It better have Tetris, Dr. Mario and Bases Loaded.

curious if they'll implement some way to play multiplayer. If I can't trade my Pokemanz what good is this thing?
  • Interesting lol. Certainly more feasible emulator-wise than a proper N64 Mini at the least. Makes sense they'd go this route but at the same time I dunno that it's something I need, personally.

    R.I.P., Jaleco.

  • On the plus side, a good chunk of the best selling games were first party.

Tetris ( assuming rights are available)

    Dr Mario

Pokemon red, green, blue, and yellow

Super Mario Land 1, 2, and Wario Land 1, 2

    Kirby's Dream Land 1, 2

    Link's Awakening

    Donkey Kong

    Donkey Kong Land 1, 2, 3

    Metroid 2

    Kirby's Pinball
  • Hopefully they dont sell out instantly

Oh they will. Better get in line now.
  • Bubble bobble or bust! Seriously though, I wonder if there will be multiplayer via link cable or wirelessly though, it would be pretty cool.

    *only twenty produced*

  • I'm curious to see what it will look like, how big the screen will be, whether it will be in that classic green color or black and white. I wouldn't mind getting one so as long as the screen is a bigger than its original counterpart.
  • I don't care about the nes or snes classics but I would get this as an official handheld emulator.
  • Huh...wonder what the price range on this'll be? Cheaper then the NES Classic right since it's a handheld?
  • I wonder if this will be strictly handheld or if there will be an hd input.
  • Hope the games list is good.
  • I don't know why but i just feel like a "Game Boy Classic" release is superfluous. Yeah NES games are cheap too but many people don't have it anymore - partiallly due to not wanting to fuck around with CRT TV's or expensive solutions. A Game Boy you can buy for 20 bucks and most games for a few bucks a pop, and it is small a d portable. Having a system like that restricted to 20 or whatever games just comes off as fundamentally wrong on a whole 'nother level.

Aside from all of that the fucking thing is barely playable with a lot of games with the ghosting effect occuring with sprite movement and lack of proper shading. If they opted to release an actual real console with the greenish screen but WITHOUT these mentioned issues it would've been the motherfucking bomb but ofcourse that won't happen... they just don't have geniuses like me on those executive boards.

    *they are only 1ft long*
  • I dunno, I feel like OG gameboy games have aged a lot worse than NES/SNES games. The monochrome graphics and tiny screen are nothing to write home about, and the library is mostly watered down ports of NES/SNES titles. The only system seller is Pokemon, but even that is going to be gimped without link cable support to trade and battle.
  • Would be interesting to see how this sells. Obviously there would be less "real demand" as opposed to NES / SNES, but all of the scalpers would line up to buy anyway. They'd have to make less of them to find the sweet spot.

Ultimately we may have an entire classic line that we'll have to collect...

Interesting that you bring this up. Sales numbers and personal experience says that handheld gaming is as popular has console gaming with Nintendo fans. To me, this release will be as big it bigger than the NES classic.
  • I really wonder what this will look like. Is it going to be a portable with functioning screen? Would it be old school LCD or a modem screen? Would it play games in two colors or go the GBC/super gameboy route? Will it have hdmi out as an option? Or will it be a TV set console that only has the look of gameboy but no functioning screen so not portable at all. Might it have then hidden ports for an extra controller and split screen? If portable, I'm assuming rechargable through a usb cable. So many questions!
  • I assumed a while back that they would do a Game Boy Classic, but now I'm wondering if they will just do the original Game Boy, or the entire Game Boy family (GB, GBC, GBA). If they only do original GB, will it be shades of green, black and white, or would they try to do some type of color option (perhaps multiple options that can be selected)?
  • I would assume it's going to be like Gameboy games from the eShop.
