  • I'm not understanding why somebody would pay $15 in the present day for a Tamogatchi...

Did they even cost that much when they were new?

My siblings and I all had Digimon, though, since they were like a Tamogatchi that you could make battle each other.
  • There's an iPhone app for $1. Probably more convenient than a separate device.
  • You can get a virtual pet for a dollar shipped from China on Ebay if you really need a cheap junk nostalgia fix. I remember running to my locker in school to take care of my Tamagotchi though, and battling the Digimon ones that connected to each other.
  • There was a tamogatchi store when I was in Harajuku last year, shelves lined with the little buggers
  • Just wait for Nintendo to jump on this craze andbring back the Pocket Pet Pikachu...

  • Weren't Tomagatchis and Nanos for little girls? I remember the commercials and seeing them around now and then, but I didn't know anyone who had one. I thought it was a little girl thing.

I'm a guy and I had one (and a few other virtual pets too).
  • I happened to grab one of these in a bargain bin when they were going out waaaaayback when. It's setting on top of my games now.

Within the last month I'd actually considered cracking it open cause I thought it was fun and novel and wasn't going up much in price but, now, it looks like it might be worth the sell... hopefully.

We will see if there is a surge in collectibility come November.
  • lol I remember these things! Mine always died because I got lazy and annoyed with them. Shit I probably still have one in the basement somewhere...probably doesn't work...
  • I'm gonna feed mine a strict diet of only McDonalds szechuan sauce.
  • Wasnt there an iwatch one?
  • There are something that I will never understand and the love for these things is one of them.
  • The first girl I ever kissed gave me a Giga Pet (basically a knock off by Tiger) back in the 90s. I remember it dying when I woke up for the first day of school lol

Like others have said I don't know why they would come back now. It's something that could be done by an app since most kids have phones or tablets anyway.
  • I had one back then and I wasn't even a kid but it was entertaining off and on enough to keep it minimally entertained and alive. I think I could get into it again but a mobile phone version would be easier. If you can handle pokemon go time this would be simpler I think.
  • I had an r2d2 one back in the day. Dont know what brand it was

looked it up.... It was 1997, so i was 11 and it was a giga pet r2d2 by tiger electronics.
  • This game "brand" has come and gone since the initial release. I'm actually surprised if there isn't an app. I just assume this is Bandai(?) cashing in on throwback stuff since it's the 20th anniversary.
  • I found the one I had as a kid at my parents within the past few years scrounging for NES manuals lol I bet it just needs a new battery.
  • I remember picking up a digimon at big lots in the late 90s with my cousin and battling it out. Good times!
  • Giga pets and digimons were far superior to tamogatchis
  • I sense impending failure
  • Tamo what?
