I have a wacky races and you can see the square shape of a sticker.

it says seasons greetings. Its under the label.   very faint but i can see it in person, and its very hard to take a picture of.

the game was made i believe on christmas day, so maybe that has something to do with it.

did a little fiddling to make it more visable.

    strange cart you got there.
  • yea it says it upside down by the races it says greetings.
  • Is the pcb real?
  • It wasn't released on Christmas that's the Famicom version that was

The us version was released May 2 1992

That's what I was wondering. I can't imagine the sequence of events that took place at the factory for this to happen.

"Hey who switched the game labels with christmas stickers again?!"
  • the pcb is correct. the label is legit, someone stuck a sticker under it somehow. maybe at the factory on the assembly line, or maybe i won the grand prize.
  • I made a thread a few months ago where I bought a factory sealed Sega Saturn 3 pack (Virtua Fighter 2, Daytona USA, Virtua Cop) on eBay, I opened it, and a used band-aid was stuck to one of the sleeves.
  • Any way we can get a pic of the full label and board?
  • This is freaking nuts!
  • That's pretty damn cool if I say so myself!
  • That's awesome, I really like this.
  • ill take some pics in the morning.

need some good light to see it

  • That's pretty awesome, don't see it very often. I guess the obvious explanation is that a bored factory worker just slapped a sticker on the front of a cart and waited 30 years for someone to make an internet thread about it.

    LOL

  • Where were games made and manufactured? I assumed that all games, Japanese, US, Europe, etc. were made and assembled in Japan. If that's true (though I could be wrong) it makes this sticker all the better. I know Christmas is celebrated in Japan for different reasons, but I still think this is hilarious. I doubt this was the work of a mildly disgruntled employee. It sounds to me like someone had to work 2-3 days before Christmas, was a bit to jolly and stuck a sticker on a game just for kicks.
  • Has a label swap been ruled out?

he knew i liked odd stuff like that.

    That was my next concern.

Were people hand applying labels during production? I always just assumed they were machine installed on an assembly line.

OP can you give us more pics?

    overall label

    spine

close up on corners of label

  • Clearly this game was manufactured in Santa's Workshop. Fucking Elves!

  • i took the best pics i could

very tough to see it like i said.

you can see the outline of the square sticker in a pic or 2

the bottom left corner of label has a little crinkle, but nothing that suggests a whole label was removed

probably lifted a little from not being flat.

  • I'm hoping someone else will chime in
  • Label definitely looks legit.

If it were removed after the fact there's no way it would be that clean unless someone went to a lot of trouble, heat gun, new adhesive etc. - and for what? To confuse some internet nerds?

Definitely see the outline of the sticker but can't really make out the writing. There is a sticker there and really what it says doesn't matter much.

I am going to assume some chucklehead at the factory thought he was being funny and somehow put it on there. That's my thoughts anyway
  • That or someone did pull it up looking at the scrunching of the label in the bottom corner. I imagine with some heat and too much time on your hands you could roll it back very very slowly doing that level of minimal damage.
