Conker's Bad Fur Day DEV Cart found! Current bid is $87,000...

This is insane. Can't even imagine how much crazier the bids would be if it was a Conker's Twelve Tales build....

  • The seller doesn't know anything about this stuff. They must be shitting their pants on this score.

edit:  /\  apparently she does. Why do people make themselves sound so naive in ebay descriptions?

I'd hate to be that chap.
  • Same story as California Raisins.
  • Definitely fake bids. This is nowhere near worth that price, no one would ever spend that much on this since it's not exactly a holy grail game of any sort, and anyone who has looked into the details can figure out this is likely just the same as a final retail copy of the game. The seller apparently has a sketchy history, so people are trolling bids just to stick it to her. Sad thing is these people are going to make her think even more that it's seriously worth that price.
  • Do you think they'll take a ferrari as a trade?

What kind? Also is it for sale?

  • Well I gotta go steal one. They're everywhere in vancouver.
  • Shut down in only 2 pages, good show! I would like to see where this ends up regardless.
  • From the assembler thread, someone mentioned the carts have a kill switch. Do Rareware devcarts really "wipe" if you attempt to play them?
  • Lots of misinformation and unneeded hysteria about Rareware carts in that thread. People got information mixed up and didn't know what they were talking about. There are some Rareware flash carts that only connected to a PC to have the game ROM transferred to the cartridge in real time onto flash RAM so long as the system had power running to it, but if that power was shut off then the RAM would be erased, rendering the cart empty. These were in-house development cartridges only and weren't dessimated to the general public for review, which is in contrast to this Bad Fur Day cart which says it's for the BAFTA awards. A whole batch of these dev carts having labels reading "Conker 64" on them were sold by a former Rareware employee years ago. Quick Google search and you'll see what I mean, they all have a PCB board sticking out of the top unlike a regular N64 proto. These are the carts people are loosely remembering when they talk about this "kill switch," but they're getting the information wrong.

The BFD cartridge that the woman has looks like a standard N64 prototype cartridge. Nothing too special. The fact that she supposedly tried turning it on and it just showed a black screen is either a sign that it either needs something else to get it working, or the cart is just non-functioning, maybe even empty. Either way, the person that owns it and their supposed history as a scammer tells me that I shouldn't touch this thing even with a 10ft pole. The auction description says everything you need to know about the lady's communication skills.
  • Knowing nothing of the seller the price would still be obviously inflated by trolls.
  • I wonder how recently that Conkers sticker was printed to put it on the front of the cart. Very unlikely, in my opinion, that a proto would have the retail cover on it.
  • Hmmm... Retail logo is one thing, but I've never seen one straighten-out like that. The only official logos I've seen have either Conker+Berri and/or the Nintendo logo on them at a skewed angle.

This could be a early retail logo? Again, look online and see if you can find one that's not at a skewed angle. There are some custom ones (probably done by a font type), but they're not the same since they don't have the exact same shadowing, texture and color as the offical logo.

So... maybe it is real? If it does indeed have a killswitch, and it boots black... then someone already f*cked with it. :\
  • I'd also be skeptical about the final art being on a dev cart. Typically final art for title pages come pretty late in dev.
