Anyone ever try video games monthly?

Ive been looking for a subscription box and stumbled across it. Seems like a cool idea but are the games they actually send worth it? Like do they cost more than the price?

I do do like the idea of you being able to list what games you have do you don’t get doubles, that’s neat.

  • If you're going to go through the hassle of making a list of all the games you already own, seems like it would be cheaper to just buy what you don't have off ebay or here. I guess if you want the surprise aspect of it, go for it.
  • Those subscription boxes seem like poor value. In unboxing videos it always looks like super common or less desirable stuff and it's not like it's worth more than the subscription price. If it was a way for a store to move unwanted merch at a deep discount, I think it would be cool. If I'm getting a box of random crap, I don't want to pay market price for it. You'd get better value just using a random number generator and loading up a cart on JJGames or eStarLand IMO.
  • Checked out some unboxings. This could be cool if they randomly include something uncommon, like a booster pack for a trading card game or something. Looks like they just send random commons
  • I've never used one but it could be cool if you could be more specific with the categories IE not just what you already have but also Preferred Systems, Completeness, Condition Minimum

Seems like it would more likely be used just to dump crappy stock though
  • Seems we had a thread on this once some time ago, and even then it was very subpar all around.
  • I sold a few lot of commons on eBay a few months ago and they BIN'd them very quickly.
  • Not sure which subscription service it was, but I saw one that seemed like a good price. I pondered the idea of signing up. But in the end, it makes more sense to just order the games that you want when you want them.
  • Go to your local thrift store and buy some random commons for a few $. That way you have some elements of surprise while still having elements of choice. Much better than signing up for some subscription service, never got into these...
  • I pretty much agree with the consensus here. They don't appear to be worth it, especially if you already have a lot of commons. You're better off going toba gamestore with $15 - $20 in hand and seeing what you can get for it.
