Mech battle between USA vs JAPAN confirmed!

Can't believe no one posted this yet, sorry if it already was though.
A couple of days ago, a group in the US requested a match with Japan's battle robot asking where in 1 year.

Recently Japan responded back and approved for a battle between their 2 giant robots.

It's like, yeah, red white and blue is cool and all, but Japan is going to go elbow deep in this. My money's on Japan. The guy in the video pretty much laid down the "This is Japanese culture in a nutshell. You can't out Eva us, baka."
Unless I'm completely misunderstanding who is involved, they are two groups of hobbyists from the respective countries.
Since the American team built their robot more recently, and likely with this purpose in mind, they probably have a better shot.
Otherwise, unless one of the teams gets a major sponsor so they can dump more money/engineering-expertise into their mech, I fail to see how the Japanese have an advantage of any kind.

They believe in the heart of the cards.

I'd imagine it's some kind of Yugi-oh reference that a bunch of us are too old to appreciate

I wish there were one of those memes that say "That day when you're only a few weeks away from being 30, and are told you're making references too young for older people to understand" but consolidated to a few sound bite worthy words.
But yeah. I'm hoping the Japanese team is able to make updates to their bot for this match. It sounds like they have every intention to.
To be honest, this is going to be far more exciting than watching that fucking let down of a match between Mayweather and Pacquiao. This is something to get excited for.

Maybe there was a sharp divide, then, in terms of what age groups were the target for Yugi-oh.
(or maybe the game spread gradually by region, I don't know)
I'm 33, and I don't recall even hearing about the card game until I was out of college and way past the apparent target age (saw mostly middle schoolers playing it, from what I could tell)

Looks like it wasn't even released in the USA until 2002, so you'd have been a junior or senior in high school, based on your age.
This close to my age, I'd have figured your CCG of choice would have been Magic.

It most certainly was Magic. Dear god was it ever Magic. I never got into the Yugi-Oh card game per se, but I did enjoy playing the TCG on PS1 and GBA. Not to mention as a junior in high school I was still watching Pokemon, and Yugi came on before Pokemon trying to steal the Poke-thunder.
BIG SPOOKY GOTH KID WATCHING 4KID ANIMATIONS.
... Almost got back into Magic a few years ago; until I realized it is no longer what it once was.
Pfft. Watched god damn Sailor Moon every day until it stopped airing some where in middle school. However, I was that IT guy everyone brought their broken shit to to repair. So I was that guy. Me. That was me. That guy.
Guess we'll just have to see what happens!
This is a Mechwarrior vs Gundam fan-fic fans' dream come true.
It certainly has the potential to be as slow as an actual tabletop game of Battletech

It's something surprising how such games appeal to a wide range of ages. I never really touched Yugi-oh cards, but my step brother, which is like 8-9 years older than me, was playing Yugi oh when it came out.
