RIP Gord Downie

Rest in peace to the legend, Gord Downie of the Tragically Hip, a Canadian icon and the face of Canadian rock for nearly 30 years. I was raised on the Tragically Hip, their music filled my household throughout my entire childhood, and continues to in my adult life. Their music is the staple of every Canadian party, and if you've never heard it before, do me (and yourself) a favour and watch this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f9E6V1xT1Ls to see the perfect mix of genius and insanity (though mostly genius) that made Gord Downie such an amazing performer, front man, and representative of Canadian rock. I'm devastated to see him go, but his music will live on for as long as I'm around, and hopefully long after that. RIP

  • Oh no, this is awful. Another sad loss for Canada. RIP.
  • The PM made a statement:

  • Dang 2 Canadians in 2days
  • Never heard of him, or the band until today. Music is solid though. RIP
  • Hip are pretty underrated outside of Canada, I suggest everyone check them out.

    RIP Gordie.
  • Was never a big fan of the band, but he had a pretty major influence on Canadian rock music.

Also this song rocks, mostly because it's about a Leafs player.

  • That sucks, I only found out about him through Trailer Park Boys and have grown more fond of their work over the years, plus he was a huge fan of our local music club, First Avenue and could routinely be found in a First Ave hat.

Yeah, I'm a big alternative rock fan, but same here! I guess Canada was keeping a secret from us.
