Looking for information on collecting Not For Resale titles

I've noticed a fair amount of DS/3DS carts online that are reasonably priced and labeled "Not For Resale". I like the idea of owning something slightly outside the norm but while looking up the topic I found that many 3DS NFR games did things like auto launch into the game and disable the home button. Are there any other changes I should be aware of? Do any of these NFR titles omit content or features or are they generally just the retail game for demo systems and the like?

Thanks in advance!

  • I got a bunch of these from online. It is true that the 3ds games auto launch. But I've never heard of them omitting content on a retail console. One thing to note, is that some of the original DS titles will NOT work with 3ds for some reason. It causes it to crash. One example of this for me is Picross 3d which works on my ds lite. They are really cool in my book, some of the old ones are just the full games and not a demo. My copy of Banjo Kazooie is the full game even though it has a nfr label with the back sticker.
  • Excellent! Thanks for the heads up on the potential for DS to 3DS issues, exactly the kind of information I'm after. I gotta say I am curious as to why these demo units weren't always just cut down games. I mean they are not for resale after all (lol) but I guess cost to manufacture semi-unique carts is the deciding factor on this so I'm glad to know that content is not much of a worry.

Luckily the GB/DS line is among my faves so I should always have something to plug a demo cart into

    Many thanks!
