How do YOU resist spending too much on games?
So I have to admit while I can be frugal with most things, I still struggle with the temptation to spend more than my monthly budget on games. I just seem to have a real knack for finding good deals right after I've already bought my alotted games for the month, and find it hard to resist.
Its that feeling when you know a particular game does not pop up often at such a good price, so you're actually LOSING money by not buying it right now! I really have a tough time with this, and have found myself at times closing the Ebay tab and walking away from the computer to get my mind away from it.
Wondering if others struggle with this as well, and what do you do to deal with it?

when youre out of money dont look.
Good advice, but my daily game searching is a hard habit to break. I also sell on Ebay so I am regurlarly visiting the site anyways. Its rough.

Are you going for a full set?
I made myself buy Everdrives and don't let myself search for pricey games too often. It's nearly impossible for me not to not look when I'm at the local game store but online I try to quit searching for any game going for $50+
This works for me. I've basically stopped buying games for any systems that I have flash carts for, which has basically allowed me to go without buying any cart based games in a few years.
What I've been trying to decide for the past few weeks is if I should start selling some of those cart based games that I have flash carts for now.
I usually scramble and try to flip some stuff, or i sell off what i can easily buy again.
But i also buy and sell as something to pass the time since i am disabled, so i find great items coming and going through my hands as part of the cycle.
I also go through months where i buy nothing.
Right now is that time, although i keep looking to torture myself anyway.

No, but I do have a long want list of games I'm still trying to get.
Patience and self control. Otherwise, try playing some of the games you own. Can't browse ebay while playing!
Hmm, this actually brings up a good point. I actually mainly struggle with this at work during breaks and down time. When I'm at home I hardly ever have this issue as I'm usually occupied with family or gaming. I need to somehow keep myself more occupied at work but sometimes it just doesn't work that way. Anyone who works in an office environment might know what I mean. I suppose one suggestion could be handheld gaming but I just don't do handheld.
I don't. I always end up finding a great deal or a sweet item that rarely comes up that i feel i need to have before i lose the chance.
Yes, this is exactly how I feel. It sucks, and retro games stuff is the only thing that does this to me because pretty much anything else I know I can always get again at a later date for the same price. Out of print retro stuff though, you always have that feeling where you're not sure when it will come up again at that price. That's the kicker.

Yup! I just did it with two store posters.
Mario RPG and Legend of Dragoon. Two really nice posters, LOD is a double sided banner and Mario RPG is a huge poster of the cover basically. I have never seen the LOD before and had to have it, so i scrambled and sold off a few games and sent an offer. Can always get them back, might never see this poster again.
Same with the Mario RPG. Although a bit more common than the LOD, this one is near mint.
Honestly the best thing you can do is just not look. You can't want what you don't know is there, ya know? Otherwise, there will always be something that makes you want it.
So that means my paypal will be loaded and then whatever happens happens.
Don't get me wrong I still buy my retro games but I have become much more patient. Another way I have acquired games without breaking the bank is trading at local facebook group meetups. Some guys in the group give 15% below market value so making friends locally is another way to stretch the gaming budget.
I dont really. Just buy whatever I want, although lately i have been setting up a big pile of shit to sell

Well I guess your going to have to sell me some of your shit!!!! Lol

This is true, thus why there is a pause button.
I buy guitars instead.
HAHAHAHahhahaa man... yea... It was easy for me to stop buying NES games. My mind is still stuck in the 90s and if I can't buy a toaster NES with 10 games for $20 then I don't want them... The prices yall find normal and agree to pay are out frickin rageous..
Instead I've found other hobbies, and buying expensive guitars is just as bad of an addiction as buying expensive video games Hahhahaa! damn.
The big problem is being of the mind that "If I don't get it now, it'll cost more later" I've just made peace with that. No sense going bankrupt because I don't want to spend 30 more on a game next year. Most games don't go up that fast, it's just the odd one here or there that jumps.
This is an issue I struggle with at times. If I don't buy it now, I'm going to regret it. But, I have to just bite the bullet and move on.
I don't. Can't.
your lying!
Sorry, I meant I buy everything I want immediately, wait a year, then looking back it always seems like it was a good idea.
