ESRB E-rated SNES games (not K-A)?

I traded up a copy of Super Mario World over a year ago so that I could get one that had an ESRB E for Everyone label variant.

Didn't know it existed until I saw it. I knew that Frogger was E-rated (1998 release) but I only realized a few months ago that there is an E-rated variant of Tetris Attack as well. ESRB was still using K-A for that rating/tier in 1996 and at least some of 1997 and there weren't many new releases in that period but I wasn't expecting to find E-rated reprints of earlier titles. What other SNES games were released or reprinted with E-ratings?

PS: The E-rated SMW doesn't have the updated Luigi sprite from Super Mario All*Stars + Super Mario World. First thing I checked. Bummer.

Mask ROM was produced week 44 of 1997, CIC lockout chip was produced week 1 of 1998, coin cell was produced week 4 of 1998, and the SRAM was produced week 9 of 1998. MAD1 chip may have been produced later if "816" means week 16 of 1998. Guess they were still producing the Player's Choice Million Seller series without relying on stock of old components.
  • Wow! Now these are the type of posts I love seeing. Incredible seeing a SMW from 1998. That blows my mind. I'm so grateful there are date codes on chips. Now what would the absolute latest, final batch of super nintendo games released in North America be?

Kinda reminds me of the super-late SMB2 USA reprint:

  • I didn't know they could change the rating.
  • I got a copy of Kirby's Avalanche that has a CIC with the date code of 20th week of 1998. That was originally released as K-A and then redone as E.
  • All of the top Million Sellers games kept getting printed into 1998 (I distinctly remember Yoshi's Story N64 to be the first game to ever have an "E" rating, February 1998) Mario World, Mario Kart, Mario All Stars, Link to the Past, Super Tennis, Donkey Kong Country games....same goes for Game Boy & Genesis. I have a copy of Ducktales 2 with the E rating.
  • This is what the box should look like

No different than no rumble in the Players Choice copies of Mario 64 and Wave Race 64

I thought those games had no rumble support at all and was only added in the Japanese re-release?

I doubt rumble support was dropped in a Player's Choice version.

I got Yoshi's Story at-launch and I recall it being my first E-rated game too. I repurchased a ton of new SNES games in 1998 and never noticed that some had been reprinted again with the E-rating. I figured it was all New-Old Stock at that point. Definitely never saw DKC with an E-rating. What's interesting is that SMW here says "Made in Japan" even though that was the time when even firstbparty releases were getting the "Made in Mexico" treatment. My repurchased DKC sand DKC2 boxes say Made in Mexico though the original launch copies say Made in Japan (neither are PC Million Seller versions). Weird that they would revert when Makesco was taking over the platform.

Technically the ESRB renamed the rating but I wouldn't expect SNES games to still be in production at that point.

Yeah. I wish I had it, but I cobbled it together with a different box and manual. Looks like that guy did some cobbling too.

Yeah. I cobbled mine into what I had (replica insert; display box; latest manual I had). Guess that guy did the same since his cart is and launch to early '93 copy.

Thanks! I vaguely recall seeing the box with "E" somewhere but I assumed it was a bad photoshop (like half the stuff at TheCoverProject).

Yeah but North American Players Choice copies came out after the Japanese Rumble versions. We knew about them in America because of magazines, it was disappointing when they came out and didn't have the rumble added in.

  • And it's not Majesco... I wonder if the Nintendo factory banged out one more batch after Majesco was done.
