Lots of NES & SNES games popping up in stores in KY
Sorry if this is not the correct forum for this, but it spreads different topics...
I had a couple days off and cruised around town a bit here in Louisville, KY and hit up some of the usual stores. Lately I've been more into music and movies but I always check out the games sections just to see what these local multi-media stores have...just in 2 days I found some really rare stuff. Half Price books had a minty EVO cart ($200), a Japanese Mega Drive Mega Man CIB ($200), and a CIB Earthworm Jim SNES ($40), Valis IV cart ($50). Prices were definitely debatable, but it's just interesting to see that rare of stuff in the wild... then I walked into another store and found this...

The guy at the counter was telling me that this local guy had picked up this stuff way back when KayBee toys went out of business and the clearance bins were out. He said the stuff came into the store in tubs... Panic Restaraunt no manual ($1200), sealed Pocky & Rocky ($1k), Chip n Dale 2 + manual ($300), nearly a dozen sealed NES titles...Super Mario, Zelda, etc. .... this is high-end & sealed collecting which I never really dabbled in, so i'm not sure how these prices are, but I'm sure the owner would haggle... but WOW, not your typical picked over selection with a $25-$50 title thrown in there like most stores for the past year or so.
Do you all think this is going to be happening more with the NES & SNES Classic being out now? It's like people know what they have so they want to unload for quick cash while it's popular.

Double post
Edit: Which is next week. Monday is the 20% off, and it goes up til sunday.
Edit 2: Doesn't look like these games were at the half-priced books, so no good deals for you.
Wow, A sealed Panic. What was the price on that one?
The Panic didn't appear to be sealed from his description? It sounded like it was missing the manual. Still, quite a nice display of boxed games to stumble upon!

I missed that text after the photos. Thanks!! Still is right!
Is that half price books or the book and music on Bardstown road?
BME on Bardstown. They always have a good game or two, but I've never seen this kinda spread before. Even they were kinda shocked. I've gotten out of higher end CIB collecting, and their asking prices are pretty high, but I imagine they would negotiate fairly with a serious buyer. Figure I'd post this for an interested collectors looking for stuff.
Aaaaaaahhh.... Who the flip gets a cache of all these sealed games a puts price tags directly on the shrinkwrap (or even on the boxes of the CIB ones?!) It's one thing to have no clue and selling an old lot at a garage sale/flea market but if this guy is a collectibles seller, he should know better.
I'm very familiar with this store and they do lots of things that make me facepalm.
Betting a local collector passed away and this is their stuff.
Ding Ding Ding. I got 75 games from a store in Louisville after a collector passed away. There's some old-school collectors in the Louisville area with massive collections from the KB area. I was told it's a small circle.

Does that BME still have the 'sealed' Pokemon Battle set? I never bought anything from them. The inner and outter loops ones were much better about pricing and once in a blue moon they'd tell me when something new had come in, and they were holding it for 10 days.
There is a store a few towns over that also recently got a huge influx of games. Having said that I'd bet they paid full price getting them in because the prices are retarded. $1k for a complete megaman x 3 and $300 for CIB turtles in time etc. They has a nutty selection of games though and a lot were complete.
Don't be so sure on that one. They probably paid shit since it was likely an estate person that would literally take anything they were offered, and then the store got dollar signs in their eyes when they looked them up.

The stickers weren’t on the cello, they had paper tabs folded over the tops. At least that’s what it looked like.

Not that I saw, but I wasn’t really looking too closely at Pokémon stuff

You could be right, but the way this place has been getting stock in the last few months is extremely abnormal, especially with quality. Very strange for around here as everything is kinda small town.
People are getting out.
BUBBLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Its good to see that those price stickers are not directly on those boxes.
I was thinking the same thing! I'd hate to see a box ruined by stickers....it drives me nuts!

With ya there Capn. No way would a place like that shell out prices that a collector would want for items of that caliber. Not to mention how long it would take to unload some of that stuff in a store setting. Damn nice things there though, thanks for sharing!

Hahahahaha, i don't know if i would go that far but i have been seeing good things pop up locally and the story is mostly the same. Maybe not for the same reasons but it does seem like more people are getting out.

My grandfather's stamp collection was sold to a dealer for $10,000. I can't imagine how much it was actually worth. To us, a sealed Panic Restaurant and Toxic Crusaders is obviously some worth some cash at a glance. To anyone else, it's a list of 4000 things they don't want to individually try to look up or understand.

And while something may be worth a lot of money, how many people go to bookstores looking to spend a grand on a nes game; their market isn't as good as if they sold it on ebay. So it's just taking up shelf space, which for many bookstores is quite valuable.
Some high end ones are good, since they can use them to draw in eyeballs (and people, too!). Many game stores will have 1-2 high end items out in the open, intentionally over-priced. It's not there to be sold, at least not right away; it's there to get attention. And eyeballs. Eyeballs with more wallets than brains.
