Who's into demo discs/cartridges?

Just wondering if anyone here likes demo discs/cartridges? They may seem pointless if you already have the full version of a game, but they often allow you to play early versions of games without having to spend a fortune on prototypes.

If you'd like, post pictures of any demos you have. What is/are your favorite demo(s)? Are there any demos/videos in particular that you find interesting?

I have some GameCube demo discs:

October 2001 and Version 17 Multi-Game Discs, 2003 Preview Disc             Biohazard 0 Trial Edition, Biohazard 4 Trial Edition, RE4 Preview Disc

Smash Bros. Melee/Pikmin Japanese Kiosk Demo, 2003 e-Catalog               MK: Double Dash Special Edition, Metroid Prime w/MP2 Bonus Disc

My favorites would have to be the Oct. 2001 disc, the Paper Mario 2 demo on the Version 17 disc, Biohazard 0 Trial Edition, and the RE4 Preview disc (looks similar to the E3 2004 demo).

Comments

  • I do like them actually, just don't have or really need any. When I was younger I had one for Xbox that had King Fu Chaos and Vexx on it, among other things. But those two were the most memorable
  • There are many collectors on here that collect NFR carts and discs, and demo discs as well. There might even be a thread for N64 NFRs or NFRs in general. I have a few Wii demos and I used to have the MM NFR Gray cart before I sold it.
  • I have a few demo discs.... Not much use for them however
  • I've some as well scattered about, a few are psp swag from gamestop gods know how long ago.
  • I have almost all of the jampacks for PS2, but I don't really go out of my way to collect them. I also picked up a couple Bandai preview builds for the PS2 as well. Once again, don't really collect them, but thought they were neat, so I grabbed them. They're not really demos and not really prototypes, just something inbetween

  • I have a secret gigantic demo collection. As a kid i was unable to really afford everything i wanted so i always collected demos. when i sold off my original collection i kept them since the resale value was nothing. Bulk is original xbox, ps2, ps1 and a fair number of dreamcast. I have a few gamecube but nothing too special (star wars bonus disc, mario kart bonus, zelda master quest and collectors, metroid prime 2 bonus, pac man vs? Jpn biohazard 4 as well) Anyways, always wanted kiosk discs they were so cool, i always played them at retailers and never took the time to acquire on ebay. I would totally love to post pics, but have been working quite a bit lately :/ will try to report back in

Edit: i hate to admit this but i just realized that the habit is ingrained in me and with the switch and 3ds i have a ton of digital demos too.
  • Full edge dedicated NFR/demos collector here. Got nearly almost complete for each Nintendo console, accept for Gamecube since those are pretty hard to find.

Started collecting for PS2 as well seeing there are A LOT of demos for it and should be fun.

Keeping most of my collection private, but posting something shortly.

My favourite collection N64 not for resales only some are demos, but they were all used in kiosk/demo units.

Some Zelda and Pokemon Demos (all are demos/preview)

  • I love the old magazine demo discs (PS Underground, OXM, PC Gamer) especially when they have additional content besides the demos. Those things are really a blast from the 90s, and it's a physical multimedia experience that you don't get these days. Giant Bomb has a great series called Demo Derby where they go through every single thing on some old demo discs. Plain old demos I can take or leave. They're less interesting to me.
  • I love store demos and pokemon distribution stuff. Ill post a picture at some point tomorrow.

I loved the OXM Universe.  I have a near complete OXM disc set.  I hate paying for them but ill pick up ones Im missing when I see them.

  • Damn Skorp - beautiful collection! I used to have most of the N64 NFR's, minus the big hitters, and for some reason really enjoyed storing them in the Nintendo 64 labeled clamshells. The good ol' days.
  • I could see myself one day getting into collecting demo carts with partial game play, or demo discs with games that were never released. I've never looked into it much but most of the demos I do have, I have because at some point I fell in love with the demo itself, which made me want to buy the game.
