Nes game sealed, no h-seam, is it legit?

Hello. I am working on a Halloween/Horror themed collection of sealed NES games, and would appreciate some help determining if the attached game is legitimately factory sealed or not. Sticking out like a sore thumb is the fact that there is no H-Seam. I’m not knowledgeable enough about sealed games to know if that’s a death knell or if there’s more to authenticating a sealed game than that. The line going down the middle of the back looks odd to me as well.

Have not purchased this item and probably won’t regardless due to the price, but just interested for my own curiosity. Thanks for the help!

In case anyone is interested, my Halloween/Horror collection consists of the following games. If anyone has any suggestions on other games with cool box art that would fit I’m all ears!

-Friday the 13th

-Nightmare on Elm St

-Gargoyle Quest II

-Frankenstein the Monster Returns

(Monster Party is next on my list)

  • No H-seam would feel fishy to me, but this game was made by Acclaim in the US so it wouldn't surprise me if they had a different way of sealing their games.

I think someone that collects sealed and that has a few of the later Acclaim/LJN titles sealed will answer this question better than me.
  • i think thats one of the ones with the overlap seal. bronty has an article on which had them in the very early Ezine days. T and C surf 2 is one of them for sure. I say legit!
  • Doesn't look like a reseal, often you'd see wear on the edges or corners of the box, especially where it opens
  • It looks legit. Acclaim and Midway games for SNES pal have some overlapping seals, for the few games that I've seen. Also for Megadrive games Pal I've seen this way also (for Acclaim/Midway).
  • Next point of discussion. Not saying it's not possible, but who would go out of their way to reseal Alien 3 of all games?

I used to say who would repro TMNT 4 when a real cart costs the same
  • I just referenced a VGA graded copy with the same vertical seam this one has

  • Legit no doubt
  • Legit, lots of LJN games came this way. I have the WWF ones with the same seal.
  • Awesome thanks guys!
  • It is legit. Mine is the same.

Acclaim bought LJN in 1990 iirc and started producing their own games. They have vertical overlap back seals, white inner boxes instead of the recycled papery grey, different cart shells embossed on the back with labels prone to glue mottling, even the boards and sleeves are different.

Bartman VS Radioactiveman, Rollerblade Racer, etc. All the games you can't find with good labels are 3rd party produced.

I know a game retailer who reseals all boxed games. They don't even note whether or not it has the dust sleeve or manual or map/poster first! I've actually had them open them up first when I've considered buying them. If they balk I ask why they didn't think about that before sealing... as if the contents and internal condition wouldn't be a concern... HA!

Jeez, man, that sounds so scummy.  Where I live, there are 4x used game shops within 10 miles of one another and this is a rural area.  I'm pretty sure these 4 businesses are why I can seem to never find anything at yard sales and thrift shops, because I know they are aggressive in that way.  However, from my interactions with all of the guys that work and own those places, they seem to really enjoy collecting and helping fellow collectors.  Sure, they are all marked up a little but each one has been more than accomidating in letting me check condition of items and ask so many annoying questions about the rarer items I've bought from them.

My shops have spoiled me.  I really am a little shocked that these guys get away with this stuff.  I mean, it seems obvious to me, if you're going to collect, make sure what you'r buying is complete or in the condition you expect.

Really?  They don't sell the games as new do they?

  • They don't even pretend that they are new (price tags are under the shrink and they are mostly priced appropriately). It's no different than the fleamarket seller who seals thousands of DVDs to look more professional or the Japanese sellers who even seal loose carts. Always thought it was stupid though. Just making things hard for everyone and wasting money.

The place is "Gamers" in Villa Rica, GA. They used to do it at the Carrollton, GA shop too before they closed that one down.

yeah I don't understand this practice myself. A thrift store by me does it as well. You'd think they'd take that opportunity to at least put the price on the shrink so you don't have to remove it from the box
