It was hard to pass on them as they really are good trade pieces.

Thats not a small score. I primarily collect SNES and havent gotten anything that good in a long time.
  • I've found one of my most useful resources has been to keep contacts with the resellers. Even if you can't get that deal you want from time to time they'll want to dump off their games due to whatever circumstance.
  • There is no thrift store in my area, the closest must be 25 minutes from my house, so when I stop by once in a while when I go to my client's office that is fairly close. I found a few goodies for my vintage B&W Mac but for Nintendo (or video games in general) it's always pretty bad. Not sure if they never have any stock or if someone picks it up...

The other day they were selling a super yellowed NES for $35 with no game, SMB/Duck Hunt was another $10 and that was it. They have a few Wii games, but nothing impressive, mostly shovelware and Dance games.

There was one pawn shop not that far that had very few games at decent prices, but a few years ago I went there and they expanded their NES, SNES and N64 section and prices were way too high so I stopped going. It's also around that time that I bought flash carts for all my systems.

I think they get stuff from time to time but I am finding there is a couple people in my area (3 of that i know of now) who hit it every single day then turn around and flip it on facebook marketplace.  I even heard the one I bought games from mention he got a super mario rpg the week before but it was all jacked up.  So its all about timing and luck.  Whoever donated these games was the same person as I had to scrub his name off each game.

  • I have been hitting them everyday now maybe my first score has me addicted but I am also thinking that maybe people will dump a bunch of stuff right after christmas. I didn't find anything the last 2 days so I hit my favorite pawn shop for games thats close and picked up WCW vs NWO Revenge for n64 for $4 and Final Fantasy X + X-2 HD remastered for PS3 for $8 just I bought something today hahaha

That's not a small score? Glad I stopped looking.

It is a small score I got two games for $14 that would run me around $45 on ebay.  I don't consider saving $31 that big of a hit.  Had I also grabbed Mario Kart and say Super Mario Allstars which also run about $45 on ebay together I could have saved another $31 for trade value.  I don't really consider saving $60 that big of a score or a hit.  I mean its nice to find a $28 game (zombies ate my neighbors) for $7 or Donkey Kong Country a $18 game for $7 but it wasn't like finding a copy of Chrono Trigger or Earthbound or Little Samson for $7.

99.99% of the forum hasn't found either of those for $7.

  • Lots of unrealistic expectations here. If youre holding your breath waiting for a bargain priced Earthbound, good luck. The few who pull those down are lucky, and camping on craigslist and driving several hours on a moment's notice

$100+ worth of games for $7 each? Thats a good find, even if you passed on the Super Mario Kart

Honestly I have never even played earthbound its not high on my wish or want list I was just naming pricey games.  Chrono trigger would probably be my top game for expensive games I want really bad (but I won't pay the crazy prices for it so I am going to probably just buy a CIB japanese version of it as they run less than $20 so I can own it, I refuse to do retro's and then just continue to enjoy the rom of it on my snes mini).  Zombies ate my neighbors would be top 5 of games I want for the snes so it was a find for sure (Chrono Trigger, Zombies Ate my Neighbors, Super Metroid, Super Castlevania and Earthworm Jim 2 for my top 5).  I mean it was fun to find something but my expectations are still low, I mean I'd love to find an Ocrania of time too and other games but to get one of the ones I want the most was amazing.

ah well its in california on the way to placerville

  • yup it is frustrating but you'll get something eventually. Out of the 100 times you go u get at least 1 score... Not worth it for most but i still enjoy it. Its good news to see alot of NA members seemed to stop going! That lets the foolish grinders like me get a better chance at finding something haha.

  • I shut down the majority of my in the wild game hunting around Halloween since I rely mostly on garage sales and this is New England.  Then I turn my focus to selling apps and my FB in search of games ad but not as many people on them around the holiday and winter months it would seem.  I still do fairly well in the spring/summer months though, check out my finders keepers thread for last year's finds.  I think I did OK considering it was 2017.

I know its cliche but you just have to be persistant.  Make your local rounds on your way home from work.  Don't go out of your way, but be persistent.  Location matters too.  Rural areas wont be as easy as big cities.  Its nothing like 10 years ago but the stuff is still out there.
  • Make sure you span out to as many places as possible. Make any connections you can, and keep looking! I still find lots of crazy stuff everyone once in a while, but I really put in the hunting time. If you enjoy the hunt, you'll find the stuff!
