Extremely strange haunted SNES only plays certain titles!?!?!

To preface  I have ran a retro game store for 15 years and this is not a dirty contact or game issue.

Check this out.

Customer brings back a SNES saying it will not play mario world. Yea, yea, clean your damn game, right?

I pop in their mario world and when I got to he map screen it's just pixelated garbage and when you press a button you just go to a random stage.

I clean the game, same thing. really strange.

I pop in super metroid, yoshi's island (FX chip), and Donky Kong Country they all play perfect.

I grab two other copies of mario world and they do the same thing, but each one starts the game in a different world, but the stage select is again, Random!?

I tried a copy of lufia 1 and 2 and they are just pixel trash from the get go. What is up with this thing? I've never experienced this before and my test results never change. Why does this thing only go crazy with certain titles?

I also tried various power supplies and av cables.

Comments

  • Did ya blow in it? ;P
  • My guess is bad RAM. Got a burn in cart to test the console with?
  • This is def one of the motherboard chips failing and yes it's normal for one game to play and another doesn't when the motherboard starts to crap out. I have three that won't play most games but Donkey Kong Country plays perfectly except for the Rare logo at the beginning glitches up. Time to fix it or sell it as parts.

I test my SNES units with many different titles before I sell them just to make sure.
