8bitdo with AVS issues...this thing is possibly terrible

A few weeks ago I broke down and bought an SN30 and the adapter for SNES and NES. I didn't play with it very much (only 20 or so minutes) but decided it worked great and bought 2 NES30s and an additional adapter to use with my AVS for some 2 player action.

At a glance the 2 NES30s seem to work great but the wife and I have been playing a lot of Snow Bros. since yesterday (as we had a bad (for us) snow storm yesterday) and they keep derping out on us. At first I thought it was just me but then she began to complain that sometimes when you hit a button nothing happens. Once or twice my character (not sure if I'm Nick or Tom lol) randomly walks on its own. I confirmed this by sitting the controller on the table and after a minute or two my character began walking for just a second (about 1/3 across the screen) without any controller input.

I have both the AVS and the controller updated to the latest firmware so I know that's not the issue. I have not tried the controllers on any other console so cannot speak as to whether the problem is broader than I realize. Considering both are acting wonky I feel this rules out the potential for a defective product. We sit about 8 feet from the console but as a just-in-case I moved the console about 2 feet from us (defeating the purpose of wireless controllers) and the issue continued.

Ive considered just scrapping these and going back to OG NES wired controllers.
I don't really like the Retrousb controllers (sorry..I'm not trash talking I just want the closest thing I can get to a real NES controller and I don't like the shape) so these are not really an option for me. I got on eBay last night and couldn't find one OEM NES controller new/sealed for sale. I did however find brand new SNES controllers for around 100 each.

My question is, are these things just terrible? Tons of YouTube people give all the 8bitdo products good reviews. Anyone else experiencing similar issues? I feel bad having wasted around 100 dollars for these :/ Any insight is appreciated.

  • I haven't experienced that, but I run all my WiFi stuff on 5GHz.

I think 2.4GHz interference could be causing these issues.

As is my router's signal? If so I can investigate and see what I have.
  • Yeah, might be a router. Try moving yours to another channel.
  • There were reports of multiple gamepads interfering with each other, but that might have only been with front loader NES. Does it work if you only have one receiver plugged in and one gamepad turned on?
  • I always thought it should have been one receiver for both ports. Missed design opportunity!
  • Next time we play I will do tests with both the router and using one controller wired. Even when playing one player games I have left the second adapter plugged in.
