What is this PS2 cord?

Heya guys! A friend recently showed this to me and wanted to know what it was. It appears to be some kind of controller adapter cord for the PS2. Anyone know what it goes to or what it's purpose is?

    Possibly it worked for an accessory like the madkatz ddr pad.

    Looks like maybe a Mac serial port. Guessing some rando 3rd party controller connector.

    It's for Hori's Dragon Quest slime PS2 controller.

    Ah. I never knew that controller had a detachable cord. I don't think I've ever seen it out of package.
