Looking for advice on sprite design

Right now my robotics team is trying to go over the top for our competition theme (8 bit games) by having people make sprites. For all the games I've played over the years this is harder than I thought, anyone have advice?

  • Why not just do your Robot as a sprite?
  • You get better with practice. Look up some sprite sheets for actual NES games. Find a style you like and try to draw something like it.

Well, for one it has to be a person (probably should have mentioned that  ), also our robot isn't quite done yet.

Best advice, here. If you aren't skilled at something, copy someone who is good until you know what you're doing. Other advice: go slow, practice, lookup guides on the interenet.

  • Draw a picture with few colors. Then try overlaying different sized grids on tracing paper. Color in the blocks on the grid to reproduce the image
