Does anyone recognise this modification for the original xbox?

I was given this original xbox a while ago, and because it is an original xbox I haven't really paid much mind to it since. However, I recently dug it out of a box, and noticed this set of switches on the front-bottom of the case.

I assume that this is for loading up roms and emulators and stuff, which is cool I guess, but I have no idea how to use it! So extra information would be nice... Also, I would actually prefer a mod for the Xbox to be region free, so I could play Japanese games etc. Does this look like a region mod, or would it just be for emulators?

I haven't got an original xbox controller on me at the moment to test this, but I'll be getting one to try it out soon. Any extra information before I boot the machine up would be cool, thanks!

  • Early XBOX mods involved replacing the BIOS chip or enabling the ability to write a custom BIOS to it. You could install a switched solution to switch between a hacked BIOS and original (or between multiple hacked BIOSes).

So chances are, no region mod? Or perhaps there is? I will get a controller to plug in and test it on Tuesday, but I am very curious!
  • Region mod is easy enough, dont have to use a chip, you can load an exploit onto the xbox hd from a flash drive. XBOX uses a microsoft desighned usb connector for its controllers, you can buy the cable quite cheaply to plug a flash drive into the xbox.

You then just need a copy of splinter cell and a download of the exploited save file for the game, load that up and you are good to go
  • Your definitely rocking a modchip,Xecuter 2.6 CE.
