Looking for Protection

So I've been toying with the idea of getting plastic cases for my NES collection.  I have dust covers on most of my NES games, but that doesn't prevent light and dust from potentially impacting the condition on the top of the game.  Not really interested in collecting boxes for the games, and I'd like whatever I end up going with to have a clean look when shelved, where I even might be able to read the title of the game from a distance.

I've come across a couple of different options, but really don't have experience with any of them beyond the UGC (which I haven't attempted to convert to an NES case as of yet).  I'm also not opposed to printing cover art, as you can assume from my experience with UGCs.

Here is what I've come across:

[] BitBox

[] UGC

[] Whatever they use at CustomGameCases.com

I was hoping to get some thoughts on what other people use and any pros/cons they have experienced.

Thanks in advance for the help!

Super clean look, no problem seeing top label, and good protection.
  • Just ordered some myself from Retroproduction a few days ago. Dan is a member here and is a very nice guy.

He is very helpful and is quick to respond to any questions. I would recomend messaging him through his website.

After I paid for my order he actually reimbursed me some money on shipping as he was able to get a cheaper rate.

    His website is retroprotection.com
  • Thanks for the responses, I'm going to look into the places mentioned.

Any additional input folks have is appreciated!

Last but not least, thanks for the help on your birthday Phil!
  • I use the cases from customgamecases.com that Shadowfox created. Very high quality and they hold the manuals very well. I'm a big fan of what he has done and I also use his Game Boy cases for my collection.

If space or price is an issue, I would go with the clear cart protectors. You can even print out inserts for those to make them look like custom boxes without being accused of making reproduction boxes.

I would avoid Universal Game Cases for NES at all cost. They require a lot of modification to get NES carts to fit, and the quality has gone downhill the past few years, not to mention that cases from different batches can sometimes be different sizes (very small variances, but it's there).

    Thanks!!!!
  • I ordered Mario Retro protectors on Amazon and the plastic is really thick but also really stiff/brittle. More often than not the plastic cracks when you try to bend it (if you can manage to bend it :/ )

Since then I've been using Retro protection from eBay and there's no looking back. It does exactly what I need it to do.
