Sealed Chuck Rock II Son of Chuck for Game Gear

There isn't much info on sealed game gear games that I can find.  Maybe there just isn't a big market for them.  For Chuck Rock II, I see one sealed copy on ebay listed for $800 which seems high to me.  I can't find any new listings that have sold, just one CIB listing that went for around $60.  Any thoughts on fair value for a new sealed copy?

  • I honestly think the Game Gear market is one of the harder ones to judge. Generally speaking, even the rare games are cheaper, all things considered, when compared to other systems. It's also a mostly-ignored market which surprises me considering the size of the library, how long they system was in production (considering the Majesco re-release era) and the fact that it was actually a popular system.

That said, classic titles like Sonic 2 or the rather good Disney games (Aladdin, Lion King, etc.) go for dirt cheap, sealed. I know very little about this game but I'd think $800 is quite high. I'm no expert in this market, but I've dabbled. I couldn't imagine it being worth more than $200, maybe $250-300 if it's in exceptional shape and worthy of a VGA grading with likely high marks.

For reference, I think the most sought after game (regardless of being the most rare or not) is Mega Man. I'd consider a good copy of Mega Man for $800-1,000 a fair price. Unless I've missed something, I don't see how Chuck Rock II could have that type of collectible clout, even if it is a bit more rare than Mega Man. This could change if the market heats up but the Game Gear market is just not there. Right now it's 100% a buyers market.

Awesome info.  Thanks for sharing.  Yeah, $800 seems crazy.  Maybe they are hoping for that one collector that wants it bad enough.

  • No problem. I also just checked Price Charting just to look at the history. This does appear to be a more rarer title. Much more so than even the Mega Man game I mentioned. This could be because it's either an extremely rare game or their data is broken. That's possible if they (price charting) had a broken search algorithm for this game.

In light of that observation, I'd say that $800 falls within that range of "Someone might buy it within 6-12 months" range. In other words, if you had nothing but time and had a hyper-rare game for a system like the Game Gear, why not ask $800 for it. There is a chance that a buyer looking to complete a set may watch it for a long time and eventually give up on the hope on finding a cheaper copy. If you want to make a quicker sell, I'd definitely say start at $500 with Best Offer. After a few weeks, you can always bump it down to $300... then $200. There's no harm in fishing for a good sale price.
  • Member Braveheart69 is looking for this game sealed. If it is in good condition I would contact him and see if you can work out a deal.

Damn Jeff. I was coming into this thread to pass along that info. Get a hold of Brave, Erik is a solid fella
  • I personally believe this to be the second rarest game for the system. It is incredibly rare to find sealed.
  • This item has been bought and paid for.  As Matt said it is one of the better titles and also rare to find sealed. I appreciate all the people sending the seller my way. Thank you.
  • I just wanted to take a minute to publicly thank the seller on this.  Feedback didn't seem like enough.  Not only did he follow through on our deal when someone else on here tried to get in the middle of our deal but he also double boxed and triple bubble wrapped the game.

Thanks again Jeremy.  It's now where it belongs!

  • Congrats, so what does a sealed chuck rock 2 go for? Seeing as we are in its price check thread.
  • I paid $400 for it. Nice return for seller and I finally get to cross one of my list. We're both happy.

Since the price has been confirmed, I don't mind derailing the post a bit.  Curious, which sealed games do you still need?
