  • If I told you, I'd probably have to kill you.

Too late for that warning I used to have a " clearance " I know things... yet I cant say none
  • My dad does... almost ready to retire. I think he is at 32 or 33 years active.
  • How about this guy?

  • Maybe you can find it what happened to the $500 item

I shipped to Austin, Texas this month. USPS said it would be there by Thursday last week, but it didn't arrive in time and no one was there to sign for it on Friday. The recipient scheduled redelivery on 2/20 and no redelivery attempt was made.

I guess they've been investigating the last couple days. Waiting on an email or something.
  • My Dad is retiring this year as well. He's told me before that almost nobody young even applies to USPS these days
  • NGD works (worked?) for the Post Office but he hasn't regularly posted here in years.
  • Im very confident I applied for 8 different positions in three different states. Also it helps I got a really good score on the test!
  • I tried to be one. I failed the psychological test.
  • I used to work on some of their internal computer systems for facilities, energy, etc. as a contractor.

He still works for the Post Office, and yes he hasn't regularly posted in forever, he's too busy trying all the beer he can!
  • I tried and passed the tests few times in the year span of me being 20-22 years old and never got an answer. I am glad they didn't take me
  • I am not holding my breath but lets see what happens
  • I've been working for USPS almost a year and a half. What position did you apply for?
  • I'm almost surprised you had to take a test. I know nothing about applying to work for USPS. What's involved? Is it something people can actually make a good career in? Just kinda curious about it considering I've never thought about it before.

I have no idea specifically, and I've never tried.  However, I know of a few people who've tried and, surprisingly, it's actually kind of difficult depending on the roll (mail sorter, deliverer or front office worker.)  I have no clue what the pay is like, but being that it's a pseudo-governmental position, I'm going to guess the pay won't be worth the effort unless, well, you really like driving around town all day, talking to people and being chased by dogs OR sorting peoples letters.

I'm not knocking the OP.  If you need a job, you need a job and I'd assume the USPS probably gives decent benefits, which is worth a lot today.  That said, I have an uncle who works for the USPS (been with them for probably near 40 years) and I know it's been a very demanding position.  He was in sorting, so he's always worked third-shift too.
  • It all depends on the position, but the test are fairly challenging. And they hire based completely on test score (unless a veteran is applying.)

Saying it "isn't worth the time" and not a vaiable career is completely wrong. Full time letter carriers can make over 50 grand and year and either get paid addiontional mileage or use a provided vehicle- depending on location.

Starting out, part time employees make between $15-18 starting out. Mail handlers start at $15 something, clerk are almost $17 and carriers make over $18.

Benefits are pretty solid, even part time workers get health insurance.

Only downside is hours can suck and full time opportunities are few and far between. It terms on how hard you work just depends on how much mail there is really.
  • The usps in my area is so desperate for employees, they are giving out free classes on taking the application test.

But I also assume the pay is probably consistent across the whole US, and around here 50k is barely liveable (unless you commute 4 hours a day)
  • Yeah it is will be consistent across the United States for the most part. Although it may not be in all big metropolitan areas, 50k is a lot of money in most of the country

That being said, no one is getting hired at that, and getting a full time carrier position can take years if not a decade
  • This is the problem with the way the government sets pay. What is likely to happen in 10-20 years in California, if home prices don't become reasonable and cost of living can't go down, then the government will have to find a way to contract out the work. I have nothing against contractors (I am one!) but when the government contracts out labor/projects, the "cost" pendulum will swing in the complete opposite direction. UPS will be contracted out to do the work for $500,000/year per worker, UPS will "fairly" set the wages for these workers in these areas, and pocket and hefty profit margin because that's how it works when you contract labor for the government.

Awsome I got an 87.5 on the test, and right now anything RCA, CCA, Plant Positions but I am not to keen on a ARC position that has me on a pre-hire list. I was reading up on ARC's and I am not to thrilled on working only 2 days a week, but Alas I could be wrong

  • Right on! Yeah the ARC 2 day a week thing isn't the best- but you gotta start somewhere.
  • True true! Lets see where it takes me
  • Got invited for a CCA interview
  • Well it went fantasic I felt good and confident in the interview. But I think that there is a consipiracy theory in the USPS as I have been scheduled for three interviews on the same date for different stations.

Then Really did very well (better than the first) in interview #2.

Handed me a finger print card and said to wait for a phone call. I am not trying to get my hopes up but if that does not sound like hired I dont know what is.

  • I was offered a position of the CCA
  • Congrats! Hope you enjoy it
  • Awesome!! I've always wanted to work for the post office when I'm over working in television.
