Batman The Video Game for Game Boy - Sealed in pretty good shape

Ok, I'm looking to sell my copy of Batman The Video Game for Game Boy that's sealed.  I bought it from a guy who was in need of paying some medical bills.  I've bumped the price up to $500 on eBay because I've already had a few people try to get it around $350 on eBay.  Anyway, curious what you guys would value this at.  It's not sold on eBay as a sealed copy in a long time.

Here's a link to my auction.  Also, if I'm lowballing and you're not going to snag it from under me, let me know.  I'll bump the price up more.  Still, $500 is mor than I paid for it so I'm profitable enough as it is.  I could deal with selling it at that price.

  • I'd have taken $350 as fast as humanly possible. GB is extremely niche, if you've already had two offers then you've likely already talked to your buyer and didn't realize it.

Ugh, thanks.  Oh well.  I can sit on it for longer if I need too.  Thanks, though.  You were one of a few I'd hoped would respond.  Where would you pin this at, if you had one for sale on eBay?

Probably in the $250-$300 range and I would have expected it to sit awhile.
  • Ok, thanks. Well, hopefully the good news for me is that I told the guy I'd just posted the item and I'd hope to do better. However, he could try again in a couple weeks. If it hadn't sold, I'd take $350. Hopefully he doesn't completely walk away.

Eh... you have some learning to do with selling niche stuff.  I'd be highly surprised if he wanted to pay anywhere near his initial offer several weeks after the item has continued to sit.  Buyers tend to be impulsive and when a deal isn't accepted in a reasonable time frame, then it's no longer on the table.
  • Yeah, I probably do have a lot to learn. I tend to want to keep most of the high-dollar items I obtain. I figured the impulse part could have been a motivation for his purchase. Oh well. My only hope is that maybe someone out there is looking to make a complete set and simply needs it. Again, I don't mind this sitting in my collection. It can stay on eBay for 6+ months and I'd be ok with that, but I'll take your advice going forward.

Generally speaking, when you post niche items and have a hopefully price, what is your percentage spread for Best Offers? Hm... now that I realize I just asked that I'm sure that's "sensitive" information. I'd appreciate any general guidance from someone with experience though.
  • I don't have any set spread for offers. Some items are dupes and I'll sell those at a price that may be more flexible. Some items are collection copies and I only sell it if I get my price, otherwise I keep it. I wouldn't leave any one item on ebay for 6 months though, you devalue items by leaving them up for so long. People want what they can't have and will drag their feet on things that have been available a long time.
  • Ok, thanks. I'll rotate it in and out of stock over course of a couple months at a time. That makes sense.
  • sealed Gameboy games are tough. unless its mega man III IV or V you can probably get 300 or so maybe 400 but it will sit and sit and sit. Ive been there. If you put it on auction it would go for very little. you just got to wait for the righht person. 500 seems high. but if your the only person with it may as well leave it 500 or best offer. depending what you paid I would take 250 if you got it cheap. I like to flip quick and sell cheap ive never been patient like some people who wait a year to get there price

Lowered it back to $400 which was my starting price.  I posted it and within 15 minutes I had 4 watchers.  That's why I asked about it.  I don't sell a ton but historically, my auctions that have done the best were the ones with more watchers.  I figured I'd give this a try at a higher price.
  • do you have amazon as well? when I had a tough selling but valuable game I would list on ebay and amazon. right now there is no new ones on amazon so you can put it at whatever price you want. you would be surprised 8 out of 10 times it would sell on amazon before ebay. well everything sells faster on amazon...

I'm working on that.  I just need to upload my drivers license.  Typically that wouldn't be a big deal, but they want the front and back spliced together in one photo. I just didn't have time today to mess with that.  But, I'll post it on Amazon soon.  I'm surprised people would rather buy from there, and pay more.  I mean, I know Amazon is super convenient, but there are no photos.

That just means there's 4 other sellers with the same item wondering what to list at.
  • Well, the original guy who made an offer eventually came back and dropped $400 on it. I think he got skittish. Nice! Now I have a reason to go by the PO and, ultimately, swing into the Salvation Army!

Anyway, after hearing this conversation, I kind of feel lucky. I hope he's either a full set collector and I helped him fill in a gap OR he was in love with that game as a kid and really wanted a nice copy for his shelf.
  • Congrats, very strong sale and more than I would have expected. I don't think there's such as a thing as a "full set sealed GB collector". Most likely someone who really likes Batman, or someone who had a lot of nostalgia for this title.
  • I thought someone on here was, but I can't recall who. I know I've seen him post bins filled with on-off, sealed GB games. I know he even had the harder to find ones like F-1 Pole Position, Kid Dracula and the tater games.
  • I sold a texas chainsaw massacre game for the 2600 about a year back for 350 cart only the buyer was thrilled did not know anything about Atari cut collected anything possible tied to the texas chainsaw massacre. some games sell for what they are as a movie/cult claslsic rather then the game.
