I stayed up for this midseason finale "that will have everyone talking." Problem is they left out "about how awfully dissapointed it will be."

What a turd of an episode. TWD has lost it. I find it funny how Gimple always dodges questions. Maybe Gimple can answer why so many cheesy close ups. Is Kraft Cheese sponsoring this show now?
  • SPOILER ALERT: This midseason finale is awful. WHY.
  • Meh'

Definitely will be different from the books now
  • I thought it was ok. Its a midseason finale so you know nothing is going to resolve.

I didnt think it was the greatest epsiode or anything, but I dont see where you people are coming from at all saying its awful. Its about what I expected actually.

Just love negans character. When he and simon are involved in an episode I typically will like it.

    Jeff like Negan...DUN DUN DUN....

SUPER CLOSEUP MEANS DRAMA!!!....dun dun dun

  • I did not like it because it was another episode of just "the wheels spinning"

I.e. we didn't need an hour and half of the saviors rounding up the different colonies... We get it... The saviors got out... They're taking over...

Now give us something exciting and story to build on...
  • This whole season sucked... so I had no reasonable basis to expect anything different for this mid-season finale. Total turd-burger. Last season was horrible too. This is what it looks like when your show is creatively bankrupt and has gone on too long with no overarcing story to tell.
  • Yeah, I haven't been liking this season too much they're dragging it out it quite a bit it seems.

Even if the season is dragged out, they could make it intereating in some way. They have situation like Terminus and the Wolves that went by too fast, but it was interesting. The show has just lost its way I think.

Agreed. They need to shake it up a bit. New blood. New directors/creative advisors.

    There's plenty of source material.

The other issue is they keep it slow because they don't want to have a "game of thrones" issue where they catch up.

They want to stretch this cash cow out... After it's long dead

  • Quite the big turn away from the comics from what I understand. Sure would have liked to see Carl go out with a little more fight. He did seemingly save most of the Alexandrians, but you could tell from the moment the MSF started something was going on with Carl - when they focus on a single character THAT MUCH, they are goners.

Interesting tidbit, rumors were that this was Chandler Riggs decision to pursue college and other endeavors, but it turns out that it wasn't his idea at all - it was Scott Gimple's.

Lots of mini-cliffhangers to keep us mildly interested until February...

    - Alexandria / Sewer shack - obviously they get out but Alexandria is destroyed

    - Kingdom - apparently the new home of the saviors? Ezekial sacrificed himself sort of to save Carol and others...

    - Hilltop - apparently sacrificed, with Maggie taking out the captives - I thought they took her guns?

    - Carl - seems he will be an inspirational part of S809 and the rest of the season to change Rick's outlook on life

    - Enid/Aaron in Oceanside - Enid killed the Grandma lol, will they kill her or join Rick's crew

    - Eugene - seems he was a big part of how the Saviors escaped, although he helped Father Gabriel - he seems to be battling strong mixed feelings on the war

    - Father Gabriel - I think he escaped and apparently is super sick heading back to a destroyed Alexandria or who knows

    - Dwight - now all for Rick's team, no turning back

My prediction is that Eugene somehow helps Rick's team get the upper hand on Negan and Rick wins the war. Will he kill Negan or not when he gets the chance?

What do y'all think will happen? The show has deviated away from the comics quite a bit, and now more than ever...
  • "If the series' characters were more deftly drawn, we wouldn't want them to die; if its events were more logically and painstakingly plotted, we wouldn't be convinced that they deserve to. As it is, the combination of inconsistent, sporadically likable characters and implausibly close calls creates the sense among self-loathing hate-watchers that we've been robbed of blood that was rightfully ours
  • Coral!

Looking forward to the second half of this season!
  • Sick of the show.

It hasn't been a zombie show in years now, and looking back there is really zero plot to the show anymore.

The shitty thing is I'm so invested in it that I have to watch it now.

It's like my Bleach and Naruto manga. I loved them as a teen but after so many years of reading the same garbage over and over it got boring but I had to stick it out to the finish. Happy those manga are over. Incredibly upset with the ending of bleach though.

I cannot wait for Walking Dead to end

In all fairness though, in the comics its more about the human conflict than zombies.

Zero Plot? lol wut? I mean I personally dont like them jumping around, but there most certainly is a plot.

Just stop watching it then and wait till its over and finish it if you care too. Ive never understood why anyone would watch something they dont enjoy watching. The show has ups and downs now where some episodes are annoying, but Ive yet to understand why people wish something would stop. If I no longer care about something, I dont watch it. I dont wish it would end since others may still enjoy it. Same thing with the office. Everyone was begging for it to end. It was my favorite show. Im glad they didnt listen to fans during season 8 the lowpoint of the show. Because Season 9 especially the finale were fantastic. Everyone was shitting on it like you and others are on this show. Its not the best show, but I dont want it to end now

My pet peeve about the show is the decisions of characters. A few change morally on a whim. Carrol and Morgan kill everyone but carrol wants to leave the leader dude alive? Why? Why would you let any of those people who kill and want you dead live?

Yeah this ethical bullshit about last minute not killing the person who literally was trying to kill you - so over it.  I don't want to see another scene with Jesus or Morgan just because of this.  Not sure how I felt about Gavin last night, as he was about the only decent Savior that I recall, but particularly that dude that "pissed himself" and was caught in the closet that then tried to kill Jesus with Tara a few episodes back.  Good grief.

Now with Morgan, I think me (and the world) wants back the ruthless version of him, which we got for about 32 seconds last night.  Now it seems, unfortunately as rumored, that Carl's death is likely going to push this BS farther and everyone is going to try and "resolve without killing" crap.  Or...I hope...this will put Rick in a rambo-like state of mind and he will go apeshit?

Please, please, please kill that long-haired prick savior that would harass Richard.  If he survives this season, I might have to ban the show!!!  (not really)

A lot of us know what happens with the war in the comics, I'll admit I hope it takes a different turn which maybe they were trying to show a fork in the road with Carl.

I can see some folks getting tired of the same ol' cycle of mediocre episodes and I like your idea quest - if you don't like it, then wait and binge watch the whole season - they are almost always more enjoyable that way anyways.

I will say, super cool of how they did this episode - it was really well done in my opinion and I absolutely loved Carl writing letters and taking some crucial time to spend with Judith snapping a selfie.  Carl has grown into a surprisingly great actor, I haven't ever been a huge fan of his acting, but he nailed it last night.
  • They need to bring on the whisperers. They're milking the tit this season. I get it though, the battle with the Saviors and Negan is pretty long in the comics. But it feels like the show is getting a little stale and misguided. Oh well, we'll see I guess......
  • I liked that second episode. Liked that exchange on the walkie with rick and negan. Negan is such a good character. Him and Simon. Probably why I liked the episode.
  • I don't watch Walking Dead, but met Daryl & Glen from the show the other day. They filmed an episode of a travel/motorcycle show at my work. Both really nice guys.
  • I'm glad the trash people are dead but the meat grinder scene was seriously stomach churning.
  • Leaving the trash lady alive will probably come back to bite Rick in the ass.

I thought they were going to turn around and go back to get her
  • So consider me surprised. First two episodes of this season (half-season?) have been better than the entire previous season combined. Last season was pathetically slow buildups and this season has been all action with no filler. Still not worth watching it live with commercials but next day with DVR is perfect. Curious to see if they can keep this pace up into the next episode too.
  • Finally got a chance to watch Sunday's episode! What a different way of laying out the episode, that was neat. I've been growing more irritated with the garbage pail kids, so wasn't sad to see them go, very cool way for Jadis to grind the walkers away - great acting on her part too.

What is going to happen between Simon and Negan - it's definitely brewing!

The conversation with Rick and Negan, while I liked it a lot, obviously shows they are going to call off the war at some stage - goddammit!

In the beginning Rick put Carl's gun on the cross which seems like an implication of "not going to fight no more" and then he ripped it off - I thought they were toying with us and maybe they would finish out the war.

At this point, I think the Saviors will break within (already starting) and then Rick & Co will let Negan live (but I hope not!).
  • After really enjoying last week's episode, wasn't too thrilled with last nights...

The ordeal with Dr Carson and Father Gabriel was definitely unexpected - so now Siddiq will be Maggie's nurse?

And wtf - how long does it take for Maggie to show a belly? It's been like what 2-3 seasons now.

Weird having an episode without Rick. And Tara, she is a firecracker - will her and Dwight make amends now?

FYI - for those that don't watch Talking Dead, they always show a sneak peek into next week. They showed Rick t-boning a Negan-driven Dodge Charger with a Ford Explorer lol with a chase to follow - next week is supposed to be "action packed". Sure hope so!
  • This episode of the Walking Dead felt like it had limited commercials, but I enjoyed it. The end scene of the episode was wtf... how... I hope it gets explained where Jadis came from.
  • Much better this week...although given the timing we knew nothing was going to really go down with the Rick vs Negan war - which was pretty cool I'll say! So much for the Carl peaceful push I take it?

VERY interesting in how Jadis wound up in the end there...that should introduce a nice twist considering she now likely wants Rick dead. New Savior sub-leader?

Maggie is starting to go down a dark path, especially if you've seen the preview for next week (might have been from Talking Dead).
