CIB Playstation 1 SCPH-1001

This is the first release of the Playstation.  I want to pick up a nice minty one, but have no idea what they go for, or if they're any more expensive than the later releases.  Boxed PSX's on ebay seem to go for $15-30, more for BIN's.  Anyone have any thoughts (or one for sale)?

  • I have a bunch of extra PS1 consoles!
  • The SCPH-1001 PlayStation isn't ridiculously hard to find loose, but put the box and paperwork in there...I'd say you'd be very lucky to find one at all. I'd dare say it might be worth $50-$70+, if everything's in great shape and the system actually works (I recall reading at one time an estimate of fewer than 15% of SCPH-1001's that are still working...and this was a couple years ago).
  • ^Thanks Ray. Definitely looking for a CIB, though.

Yeah, I guess they do have a rediculously high fail rate due to poor ventilation problems and stuff. Although if you think about the number of consoles produced, "less than 15%" could still amount to thousands upon thousands still out there and working great.

Also, according to a post over on DP in a similar thread I made, the 1001 model isn't compatible with Dual Analog/DualShock controllers.  I couldn't really find much to back that statement up; anyone able to verify that?

  • weren't the first gen one's the one's you had to flip upside down to play some games? I remember a friend of mine always had to flip it over if it did not read the game....
