Cowboy Kid, is it worth it?

I was watching videos on YouTube, thinking about what games I'd like to own. Saw Cowboy Kid. and I thought, Oh, I'd like this. Looks fun.

So I checked ebay, and I see $500-750 price tags.

Really?

What do you think it's actually worth? Honestly. Because I see some past auctions were around $200

  • I thought Cowboy Kid ranged between 200 to 275 depending on condition. I sure as hell wouldn't pay anything over that!
  • The two loose copies are currently the only ones on ebay, so they'll have inflated prices. Wait for an auction or get one elsewhere.

Makes sense. But that's a big mark-up from $200 auction price.

When people think they have the only supply, they set prices as high as they want. *shrug*

I bet when more copies come in they soften it a bit.

  • I picked mine up locally for 225.00. Have they sold at $500 on ebay?
  • No, the highest loose price in the past was $270 / $360
  • It's absolutely one of the better games on the NES. But at this point in my life I've reconsidered how much any game is actually worth playing and my max is sitting at $30-$40 for games I want to play, and $60 for games I don't want for to wait to get cheap.

As a collectible it's great! It's got everything going for it. It's rare, it's valuable, it's fun, and it looks great on a shelf next to your collection of Village People memorabilia and BSDM gear! It's an absolute staple for any game collector.

For NES games I'd say more like $15-20, which is still a lot more than Nintendo sells the ROMs for on VC (I think $5?).  Paying $300 or whatever just to play Cowboy kid for the first time is flat out idiotic.

I agree with you there but like all good rules there are exceptions. that range excludes some true classics like Contra, MTPO, and Castlevania 3 all three of which NES essential titles.
  • It's free to emulate

It's expensive to own a physical copy

Not loose. A CIB sold for $419 and a sealed copy went for $520.

Auctions have been consistent around the $220-$250 mark. Damaged label ones have been under $200, sometimes well under that.
