all I can find is an Australian site selling it for $78 AUD. Can't find it anywhere else it's first party and works great https://imgur.com/gallery/7t4oq
I probably still have some. They don't "charge" anything. They just provide power through the battery terminals.
I think I sold a new-in-package one a few years ago on eBay. I'll try to find out how much it went for.
In Japan, the official charge kit was sold in stores. You had to charge the packs outside the GBA. The battery pack fits under the normal battery lid. Also fits Wavebird. I think maybe Wii remotes too.
Never heard of this device; thanks for sharing. Care to list the url?
I had a third party nyko charge pack for gba. Unfortunately the nicd batteries sealed inside no longer work. I wanted to replace them with nickle metal hydride batteries but I cannot open the case.
That page also describes it incorrectly. AGB-008 is not a battery pack. You would buy a set with 2 pieces:
1. An AC adapter with a proprietary DC end.
2. A replacement for the GBA battery cover that has a proprietary DC jack (the GBA itself didn't have a DC power input jack) and interfaces with the GBA through its battery terminals.
Ichinisan is right: that's not a charger, and we do still have extras new in package. AGB-008 is an AC Adapter Set. Remember: The GBA has no DC jack, so this interfaces with the battery terminal to add one. Unfortunately, it's a proprietary shape that doesn't conform to their later portable chargers and power adapters.
That's not to say that there isn't an official battery + charger for GBA: The charger is AGB-004 charger and AGB-003 Ni-Mh battery pack. They are Japanese only, as the English manuals instruct the user not to use rechargeable battery packs in no uncertain terms. It's like they knew they were never going to bring it out of Japan!
I've seen the 008 before, never did pick it up as I was uncertain to how long they lasted or by now if they'd be all that good still. A long time ago I discovered this site that has been maintained for years adding to it when a new handheld would pop up. It tracks them all from DMG forward listing all the accessories and things for each handheld since the old Game Boy. It helped me learn of some stuff I found useful and ultimately picked up like a really nice Pocket/Color OEM (Japan only) AC adapter+rechargeable battery combo.
Again, AGB-008 is not a battery pack. It "lasts" as long as your facility/residential power and the included AGB-009 AC adapter "last." It's similar to how Nintendo made an "AC Adapter Tap" for the Virtual Boy: instead of giving the device a power jack, they adapt the same contacts used for batteries.
It was a typo and I see that now. 8+9 come together and I was thinking of the official battery only in Japan which I now see reading that site I linked was #3 and #4 is the power supply for it. You have it in your picture right there on the left side.
