Best sound track on the NES has to be Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Tournament Fighters! However, there are a bunch of titles with some amazing soundtracks.
I actually own Little Samson. Shouldn't have paid the price I did. However, I do not own Panic Restaurant and Surprise at Dinosaur Peak... Two games I am on the hunt for !
This. No one can hold a candle to Tim Follin - truly a god among men. Even the greats - the Mega Mans, the Konamis, they all bow before his borderline impossible use of the sound chip.
Too bad every single game he worked on was either forgettable or a complete travesty.
it's an expanded chipset that allows for more channels to play at so the composer can have fuller chords or layers. it's not really used because it has it's own mapper (24 and 26 if I remember?! who cares.) and the board has to be fancy as well.
My usual criteria for amazing NES music is being able to listen to it for about twenty minutes on end without getting tired of it (straight listening, not while playing). If I can still think and get into a zone while it is on, then it is a keeper. I usually sit in silence and cannot think with noise, but these ones tend to work for me. They're also ones that I find myself humming or whistling, and then wondering what they are from.
Battle Kid 1 & 2
Ducktales
Exodus: Ultima III
Guardian Legend
Larry
Legacy of the Wizard
Lizard
Mad Wizard
Mega Man III
Moon Crystal
Rise of Amondus
Study Hall
Anything by Memblers, except that one weird surfing song and its many renditions

What is VRC6?
it's an expanded chipset that allows for more channels to play at so the composer can have fuller chords or layers. it's not really used because it has it's own mapper (24 and 26 if I remember?! who cares.) and the board has to be fancy as well.
