Best Soundtrack on the NES? What's your favorite?

Best sound track on the NES has to be Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Tournament Fighters! However, there are a bunch of titles with some amazing soundtracks.

Mega Man 2: All of it, especially Dr. Wiley Stage 1

    Blaster Master: Main Theme

    Contra

    Castlevania

    Ninja Gaiden

  • Jackie Chan's Action Kung Fu, Megaman 2, and Ninja Gaiden are up there.
  • Oh man so many. But as a whole, Batman and duck tales are the first that come to mind.
  • Gimmick! (best Famicom soundtrack ever made)

The Smurfs (great sounds! too catchy)

Journey to Silius (LOVE the Sunsoft bass sound)

Mega man 2,3,6 (probably the 3 best out of the nes series though I do like the others too)

Darkwing Duck (don't overlook this one, classic later capcom sound, sounds just like any other mega man game)

Castlevania 3 (as Tulpa said, listen with VRC6)

Kirby's Adventure (big soundtrack with classic tunes / wide range of styles)

Jackal (classic Konami tunes with a popping drum sample)

Batman Returns (great late era Konami nes tunes)

    Batman

    Batman ROTJ

    Super Mario Bros. 2 & 3

    Kirby's Adventure

    Dr. Mario

    Mother (J)
  • SMB 3

    Mega Man
  • Anything by Tim Follin.

    Moon theme is overrated.
  • I actually own Little Samson.  Shouldn't have paid the price I did.  However, I do not own Panic Restaurant and Surprise at Dinosaur Peak... Two games I am on the hunt for !
  • Dr. Mario is a very catchy tune.  City Connection is another great one too.
  • All the usual stuff. I've been on a Pictionary kick in my rotation lately.
  • Lagrange Point

    Earth Bound

    Super Mario Bros 2

    Kirby's Adventure

    Castlevania 3 (VRC6)
  • Megaman 2, SMB2, Ducktales, Legend of Zelda
  • Most of mine have been said. However, I'd like to add Mega Man 5 and Crystalis to the mix.
  • Castlevania 3 VRC6, no contest for me.

This. No one can hold a candle to Tim Follin - truly a god among men. Even the greats - the Mega Mans, the Konamis, they all bow before his borderline impossible use of the sound chip.

Too bad every single game he worked on was either forgettable or a complete travesty.

  • Got you all beat! Final match of super dodge ball!
  • Journey to Silius

    Mega Man 2

    Mr. Gimmick

    Castlevania III

    Batman
  • Battle Kid 1&2

    Castlevania III

DuckTales (Amazon theme is where it's at!)

    Mega Man 2

    Ninja Gaiden
  • In no order...

    Castlevania

    Castlevania III

    Contra

    Mega Man 2

    Mega Man 3

    DuckTales

    Ninja Gaiden

    Ninja Gaiden II

    Batman

and just to throw one out there that I would guess hasn't been mentioned (without reading the thread before posting): Conquest of the Crystal Palace
  • Mega Man 2 of course and Ducktales.
  • What is VRC6?

it's an expanded chipset that allows for more channels to play at so the composer can have fuller chords or layers. it's not really used because it has it's own mapper (24 and 26 if I remember?! who cares.) and the board has to be fancy as well.

  • Blaster Master

    Journey to Silius
  • Ducktales is another one yes.
  • My usual criteria for amazing NES music is being able to listen to it for about twenty minutes on end without getting tired of it (straight listening, not while playing). If I can still think and get into a zone while it is on, then it is a keeper. I usually sit in silence and cannot think with noise, but these ones tend to work for me. They're also ones that I find myself humming or whistling, and then wondering what they are from.

    Battle Kid 1 & 2

    Ducktales

    Exodus: Ultima III

    Guardian Legend

    Larry

    Legacy of the Wizard

    Lizard

    Mad Wizard

    Mega Man III

    Moon Crystal

    Rise of Amondus

    Study Hall

Anything by Memblers, except that one weird surfing song and its many renditions
