Trinitron or other good CRT measurements?

The other day I found a decent Trinitron locally for a LOT less then they normally sell for on Craigslist...sadly the damn thing was too big for the space I need to put it in. So...I'm wondering if anyone who owns a trinitron or other good CRT for gaming can do me a favor and measure them? Trying to figure out what model I need to get so I can just ask the sellers which model they have and know if it'll fit or not in the future.

The mesurements for the area are:

30 in tall, 30 in wide, 20 in deep.

That depth measurement is the issue here as most CRTs are...THICK. The area is actually 17 deep but I figured a few inches hanging over wouldn't hurt. I may or may not be able to make more room, it would involve unscrewing the back off of this entertainment system and moving it out from the wall. So if there's a trinitron around 20 in deep...I might go for that.

I've been told the 27 in trinitron is a good small TV but...it's deeper then that I think...wasn't able to find much info on that though so I could be wrong!

Help?

  • Those dimensions don't seem right for a Trinitron that I'm familiar with. I recently picked up a 27" this weekend for free. It measures 29.25w x 23.75h x 19.25d.

The dimensions you listed are close to mine... so if I had to guess the height is incorrect, and that TV is also likely a 27".

I'm measuring the area I'm going to put the TV into not an actual TV. I don't have a TV to measure.

I see; in that case then a 27" is the largest you'd be able to fit into that space. If weight is also a concern, then the 27" Trinitron weighs about 95lbs. For reference a 32" Trinitron is ~ 31w x 28h x 24d, and weighs about 165lbs.
  • Ah alright...is your 27" a silver flat screen or one of the black rounded screens? I've seen both being called a 27" trinitron.

    Silver flat screen. Model KV-27FV17

It's a pretty good CRT. If you're patient you can find them for free. I had the opportunity to get a 36" for free about 3 weeks ago but decided not to because it was farther than I wanted to drive, and heavier than what I could lift on my own. Part of me wishes I hadn't been lazy that day, and had gone to pick it up. Oh well.
  • One additional suggestion, if you have the ability to make the rear hang out instead of the front then that would be best. All the weight on the TV is towards the front, so having it fully supported in the front would be best.
  • Yes, if you're getting one of these have the back hanging out. They're beasts and heavier than you think. It was awful getting a 36" and a 27 or 32 into my house. If you do pick one up, realize it may be a commitment to keeping that tv. You can move them, but it's not fun.

Why is the picture on your screen tilted? Is that the "geometry" issue I keep seeing pop up with trinitrons?

2-3 years after I found that exact model that yours is in a thrift store but had to return it because it was on it's way out (the picture was yellowed and no amount of fussing with the settings would change it), and I still don't have one...no idea where you live but in my area no one gives them away for free. The one I mentioned in my OP, was $35...cheapest I've ever seen one. And it was too big :/

Most go for $50+ around here. It's just...hard to find them.

Because the previous owner had the tilt set to -5, and this was when I was still an idiot and didn't realize it had electronic tilt control. I've set it back to 0 and it looks normal now.

I live in Houston, TX. I wouldn't say they are common around here, but I see them go up for free with some regular occurrence. I would've easily paid $30-50 for this if the buyer asked. This TV is in very good condition.

If shipping didn't cost an arm and a leg I'd offer to try to grab the next one I see and send it to you.
  • Are you near a college, Astor? Check out their surplus sales if you are. I got both of mine at WSU for $8.
