Help With Bootleg NES Games
Hi all,
I'm sure this has come up before and has been answered numerous times but here I am, kinda new to this one. I have a fascination with pirate games. There are a ton for the famicom which was cool until the FDS on my Twin Famicom broke down and I don't need to tell you that they are no fun to recalibrate!
NES titles seem harder to find. I have some Supervision and Konami knock offs which are fun to collect in box. I've got the classic HES Australian releases. And then I have the classic Mario hacks and other titles which I've attached pictures of. Five of these games I've gotten from the Netherlands. The majority from a game store called Magixbuttons. The Donkey Kong and 52 in 1 came from Mexico and I got the 52 in 1 before the price got jacked up. I suspect someone did a video on it or something. I only bought that one cheap to compare it to Action 52 and that.
I received M.C. Mario yesterday and it's really fun!
I was on a Famiclone page on Facebook when I still had Facebook and I was under the impression that these pirates were made by Whirlwind Manu. Some members agreed, some asked what made me so sure. I don't know, because they look like the Whirlwind Manu Famicom carts? I'm probably wrong though.
I absolutely adore these carts and I've got them top shelf next to my Action 52's and Cheetahmen II carts. If anybody knows who made them or what the story is, I would greatly appreciate it! If more pictures are needed, feel free to ask.
Thanks in advance!

A lot of these might have famicom to nes adapters inside, as the famicom versions were the very originals. Some might be proper 72.pin boards though.
I could write more but it's late, bed time for me
This shit is the exact reason I rarely come here.

Was there a reason you had to respond back to his post with such malice? Dave is a pretty straight up user, I believe his last sentence means he'll edit/update with more info when time permits. You may have read him wrong, the dude lives for pirate carts!

That's exactly right, I'm kind of wondering the same thing myself where the malice was coming from.
I woke up yesterday around 6 AM drove to my girlfriend's family's house about an hour away, and then her family and I drove about another four hours into the mountains to taste and purchase some specialty tea, didn't get back to their house until about 22:00, didn't get back to mine until about 23:00. I also had a case of hives / some allergic reaction to something last night, so after getting home I just browsed the forums for a bit, played with my cat some, and then went to bed, as I was feeling both tired and itchy.
It should go without saying that Nintendo Age is a forum filled with members from all around the globe, who all live in different time zones, etc. While there are a few members on here that I "joust" with from time to time, I really don't have issues with anyone here as a whole, and my post certainly had no ill-thoughts or ill-will towards you. I had come in here to this thread just now to comment more on your carts, what I could tell you about them, but then I just see so much malice towards my original (courtious) message? Geeze.

Yes, the DK and SMB3 are not identical, the 52 in 1 cart is missing (I have this cart, but not the same label as you...the contents are generic though, quite common cart), and the Mario Party cart I also own, Famicom original format of course, but I am too lazy to dig it out. I cannot be arsed to dig through a milk crate of 100+ multicarts at 12:20 AM, the child in me would like to get some sleep sometime relatively soon
About Mario Hacks:
Should read this first:
http://bootleggames.wikia.com/wiki/Mario_Pirate_Hacks
While I am not in a position to verify information as being correct regarding ID-ing companies solely based on chip information, a good friend of mine (who helped write the info for that page) is more than qualified for reading chips in this way, having also been involved in this sort of industry. That said, the original Mario VII release would be from JY Company, original Mario IV is unknown who did it.
Your Donkey Kong (it might even contain DK Jr, based on other bootlegs having been found to contain that and not the original DK game) and SMB3, are most likely generic, unless stated otherwise some credits on the title screen. SMB3 might allow you to select any item from the map menu, also might have the whole SMB3 logo removed from the title screen, as the game loads, though this is purely just a may / may not speculative, based on common hacks of the game that I know to exist. Since hacked and unhacked versions both exist bearing the same artwork, it would be impossible to deduce the correct rom data version at 100%, so I just offer possibilities
About the company that produced the Whirlwind Manu games: I refuse to refer to the company as the aforementioned name, as from my knowledge Whirlwind Manu is just a brand. All games released from the company had one or two markings though, either L + ID number stamped on the cart, or the name Whirlwind Manu printed on the cart. To reference, for example:
You can see the LE09 ID, marking it as part of the Whirlwind Manu game series. I personally own maybe 100 - 200 of these carts, IIRC maybe around 450 are known to exist. I also own a catalogue documenting these carts, if you dig deep enough you can find my blog and some pics from that catalogue.
Because your carts have no IDs or markings, it is clear they are not part of the games produced from the Whirlwind Manu company. Furthermore, with said company / lineage, it is more than likely that some other companies had later reprinted carts bearing the L-series mark, but since these are ultimately all bootlegs, it is somewhat like splitting hairs - I doubt anyone cares about whether a game is a bootleg or a bootleg of a bootleg
OP, to be honest, after reading your initial post last night, I was planning on offering to mail you over one of my extra Famiclones, at postage cost only, as I had gotten the sense that you really appreciated / were into this sort of stuff. But your response really put me off towards it. If I took more time, I could probably write even more about the carts you presented in your first post, or even just chat with you 1:1 about these types of games even more, but honestly what is the point? As it stands, I am providing you with way more information than I should, given the way of your initial response Well, it is almost 1:00 am here, the child in me wants to play some guitar before bed, oops.

Funny, you had enough balls to make a rant about me and my initial answer to your message, yet you don't have enough balls to come back and comment how your response to my post was being a proper dick. Congrats mate, I think the real reason you don't come here is due to incidents like this, hard to take seriously a bloke who can't even own up to his poor mannerisms.
An observation, and I'm sorry to egg this on a bit, but I find it funny someone would call a member a child when children usually don't want to go to bed... it's the adults who work their ass off and come home and want to fall into a coma.
How dare you have a life, Dave?!
