Why do you even sell to international buyers?
Because the main countries that generally buy spend a lot of money and are fine. Id be cutting out 10-15 percent of sales. Canada buys a bunch and the handful of European Countries and Australia spend a bunch of money. I hate selling to South America and Central America the most. Im one bad sale away from blocking them
So probably had my worst experience with eBay yet. Just kinda unwinding tonight and get a message that is a no reply message from eBay saying they are warning me about offering to sell things outside of eBay.
So naturally I think I did something wrong, but I couldnt possibly figure out where this was coming from. So I decided to call them.
I found out the message I got was from a buyer on fievel goes west for snes saying and I'm not kidding on the quoting here. "$70 shipped for fievel PayPal ready*. I didn't even respond because at the time I either thought I could get more for it or the way the message was sent, I've always kinda hated messages like that for some reason, maybe it's how up front it is, or the way these kind of messages get worded.
Again, didn't even respond
So eBay's automated system saw that message and assumed I was offering it outside of eBay and generated a pretty strongly worded email with vague threats of suspension or the ability to not buy anything.
I call in and find this out and of course I'm pretty peeved about the matter, and the solution the rep presented was to remove the warning. Not submit feedback, not apologize, just remove a warning that I received for doing what amounts to not responding back to a deal I should have taken, (It's still for sale and for less, jokes on me! ) .
Everytime I think I've run into the stupidest thing eBay can do they outdo themselves. An email coming at 1130 at night with promises of punishment for doing nothing wrong has now taken the cake.
Part of me can't help but laugh about the whole situation as it's just so stupid and the most eBay thing eBay can do, while the other half wants me to take down all my auctions and say forget it.
If there was an auction site that I could see myself doing even slightly better that I knew people looked at items like they do on eBay i would make the switch in a heartbeat.
Thought I'd share my latest eBay shortcoming.
Cheers to one day eBay out doing themselves and finding a way to top this pointless argument i had with the poor ebay rep in the future. I can't imagine it will take much longer.
It does bring up the point though, if someone didn't like you enough they just might be able to send you messages containing words that an algorithm picks up and get you banned off of eBay. Don't like someone? Get their eBay account banned by sending messages containing words like "local Meetup", "PayPal ready", "where are you located". But please don't do that because that is a awful thing to do to somebody.

If you have to insure it you will need to mention to that buyer that its out of your hands if whatever country they are from charges import tax. I stopped selling to certain countries due to automatic import fees and high shipping cost. I agree with you about South America. High lost package ratings.

I always reply to the sender "Sure, I can do that. Just bid up to that amount and good luck!" They never bid. They could offer me exactly what I am asking as a starting bid and the item doesn't sell. Why not bid?
I'm having a problem with a 0 buyer on ebay. He bought some ps2/ps3 game cases with the manuals but he was expecting the games to be with these cases but I stated in bold that there are no games with this listing and I showed in the pictures and now he wants a refund. Can ebay force me to refund him when I've done no wrong here?
This one had the potential to be an awesome score but is a bit disappointing unfortunately. Last week during that Ebay site wide 20% off promo, this wonderful lot popped up for $119.99 + $10 shipping so I jumped on it. Got this lot for $104 including shipping after 20% off promo.
My pic:
Fast forward to yesterday when I received the package and it came packed terribly. As soon as I picked it up I could hear and feel the carts sloshing around inside. All the games were loosely thrown into an oversized box and it was obviously crushed from lack of proper padding. OF COURSE the most valuable game came with a crack in the front of the shell.
Here is a picture of the game from the Ebay listing. There was no crack
I messaged the seller last night and I'm currently trying to work out something with him. I do want to keep the games because it was still a really good deal, but I'm just so pissed right now. Going to just try to get a partial refund for the damage. Yay.

If you listed them in the video games category, then yes.

Minor rant, ebay updated their top seller policy now. You now have to not only offer 30 day returns, but you must offer 30 days FREE returns (seller paid) to get their 10% off fees. Which I suppose isn't that big of a deal because eBay forces you to cover the return shipping anyway most times, just an annoyance.
I remember back when the Powerseller discount was 20% off and you only had to meet the volume requirement.
Then you had to offer 7 day returns, which then turned into 14 day returns. And the discount fell to 10% as they changed to Top Rated Sellers.
Then it became 30 day returns, and now it's 30 day free returns. I can only imagine what will be next.

I can't imagine it changing anymore as they're just trying to match Amazon.

I noticed this yesterday as well. Kind of lame.
I just switched it to free returns on my listings. Used to have it set as buyer pays. I've never had a return yet so I'm just going to play the odds that it will most likely continue to be the case. Its worth it to me to display the top rated seller badge on my listings, and pay for a return in the rare case it may happen. Definitely sucks though, and yet another reason for why I sell locally more often now.

Yeah I talked to Ebay yesterday about this cause my concern was if somebody had buyers remorse could they just ask for a return. She said No but you know how people can get. They will make up anything just to return an item. What this translates is that Ebay is losing buyers to other sites. Soon they will be losing more sellers cause other sites have better offers.
Anyone else getting constant errors when you click a link on Ebay today? I have to go back and click it 2-3 times before it actually works. Happens when searching, seller manager thing, messages, EVERYWHERE.
To update my situation, the seller and I worked out an agreement for a partial refund for the damaged Metal Storm, so that's good.
He said he initiated the refund 2 days ago but I still don't see any sign of it on my end so I was wondering where it was. I then remembered I paid by credit card, not Paypal. Anyone know how much longer does it usually take to get the refund if I paid by CC? I don't think I ever got a refund when using CC before.

3 to 10 business days for a refund to be credited to your credit card. Yeah if you pay with credit card through paypal you will get the refund towards the card not Paypal funds. From experience sometimes it's more complicated to pay with a credit card than direct funds through paypal. Luckily the guy agreed to refund you.

You know, I've not been getting errors but I am seeing a bug with greater and greater frequency-- when I search eBay for completed sales, I'll see the list, click on an item and it take me to the summary page. That' fine. However, previously I could click on the image and it would take me to the finished auction. There's even a link to do that underneath. Now, it takes me to a random, related auction that's not closed, even though the link says to see the original auction.
I think something in their routing engine is busted. <picard-face-palm />

OK well I guess that would explain the delay.
Honestly though, I am still a little surprised (and annoyed) that Ebay can't at least send some sort of notification letting me know the seller initiated the refund and that its on its way. There is no way for me to know, short of hearing from the seller, that the refund is being processed.

I've been noticing that as well, but I was thinking it was intentional. I can see how it would make sense (from their point of view) they'd want to redirect you right to another comparable item to hopefully get you to buy.

That's why you should never use a credit card for Ebay purchases. Ebay is seperate from the credit card company. The credit card company will notify you about the credit not Ebay. If you paid through Paypal direct funds and you got a refund then Paypal will notify you which goes much quicker. The problem though with credit card and delay is that if you get billed and the credit doesn't appear you will be responsible for paying that debt off that month until the credit is given. Some card companies policies are they give credit the following month which could create hardship on people who spent a lot of money on something but will have to pay it that month.

That all makes sense and is valid points but honestly I'm not too concenred about it taking longer to get the refund and it possibly rolling into the next billing cycle. My complaint was more about the lack of notification from Ebay. Even if I didn't pay directly from my Paypal, I don't see why Ebay can't notify me as the buyer, that the seller initiated the refund and its in process.
Even just a brief note on the order details would have been enough, but there's nothing there.
I had something similar happen. Some kid bought my $180 listing for $150 somehow and wasn't required to pay immediately like I had 100% set. I have no idea how he did that then he sent me a message asking for me to do a "payment plan" for him because "you'll get your money either way. He never paid and refuses to send a cancellation request. Something is very wrong over at eBay lately...
Why do buyers never leave feedback? I rarely sell things on eBay, but whenever I do I never get feedback even when I go above and beyond for buyers. I recently sold an item on eBay, and decided to pay for faster shipping service, and add gifts to the package for free, and don't get any feedback. Are people just holding off leaving feedback in case they want to file a claim later, and then just forget about it?

Simple answer is most buyers are lazy fucks. In over 15 years of selling on Ebay I've received feedback for maybe 50% of the stuff I've sold. Pitiful.
I have since stopped leaving feedback for buyers as well now lol. Buyers don't need feedback anyways. Fuck 'em.

Still makes me nervous though. I sold a relatively expensive item on eBay. And I paid for tracking and insurance and everything, but I don't want to touch the money I got from it, even though I need it, in case they try some crazy stuff and file a claim or something.
Feedback doesn't play a role in anything related to a case. I used to leave sellers feedback immediately just to get it out of the way in bulk and one ended up scamming me, the representative assured me it was only for show and I won the case even though I had said it was delivered when it wasn't. Yeah I quit doing that unless it's under 5 bucks like a lot of the crap I buy from China.
I maybe get 10-20% of buyers over the years leaving feedback, most times it's "ok" type stuff. Try adding a packing slip with instructions and an empathetic statement to make them not throw it in the garbage immediately, I dunno.

To update my situation, the seller and I worked out an agreement for a partial refund for the damaged Metal Storm, so that's good.

Anyone else getting constant errors when you click a link on Ebay today? I have to go back and click it 2-3 times before it actually works. Happens when searching, seller manager thing, messages, EVERYWHERE.

At time of posting, there was no option to disable best offer.
Retroactively disabled it manually, intentionally.
Just got an email saying that eBay re-enabled best offer on that listing
...for fuck's sakes eBay.

I maybe get 10-20% of buyers over the years leaving feedback, most times it's "ok" type stuff. Try adding a packing slip with instructions and an empathetic statement to make them not throw it in the garbage immediately, I dunno.
