What's the value of the Donkey Kong Competition cart today?

Have the opportunity to purchase this cart and it's in good condition. Just don't want to overpay and I can't get a solid answer. Anyone purchase this cart recently or sold one? Please any info will help me make my decision easier   Thanks

  • All I know is the graded one that sold recently went for mad money.
  • Last I checked they were around $2500-3000 CAD with the case
  • I bought one with the box about 18 months ago for $3,100.

  • Jesus, I remember when this was a $300-$500 game tops. No wonder I quit collecting rare games lol
  • So without the box? Fair value?
  • Last couple I watched loose sold for between 1500-2000 if I remember correctly but that was a 1-2 years ago
  • It's the last game I need to finish snes and I'd planned on around 1600 for a lose cart , but they hardly ever popup without the box. There's no way I'm paying and extra 1-1.5k for a green rental box, that's not unique to this game, and a piece of paper that's very easily reproduced. I'd say a good chunk of the "Complete" copies out there have a box that's got a repo insert.
  • There is one with case up on Ebay Buy it now for 5K.

Agreed with this, don't care at all about the Green Case as it's been faked so much. I feel similar to to Panesian "instructions".
  • I have also been curious the value of the RetroUSB repro version in the green case. It is discontinued and I havent seen one on eBay in a while. Anyone have any ideas?

That one too, as it was basically a photocopy in the original game also. I just don’t think people realize how easy the DK case is to fake. Those green rental cases are just a generic case blockbuster used on other games as well. I'd honestly wager that at least 30% of the complete copies out there have a repo insert with a plain green rental case.

  • Yup, loose cart for me too. I would never pay anything extra for the case and insert when there's a 50% chance of it being fake. Does anyone actually have a known real insert? Is it offset printed or just some laser printer job?

  • this game and starfox super weekend are still severely under priced in relation to rarity/how many still exist/how many people still need. Everyone will look back at this thread and remember when people complained about 3500 for a DK Comp with box. I remember when i wouldn't pay $500 for a stadium events cartridge.

3100 is a very fair price. i wouldn't sell one for 3500 or even 4000 if i had one.

Very good point. Grand scheme of market value  always goes back to what someone will pay. Now to what your saying I agree rarity is definitely there but some reason the price doesn’t equal it rare state. I’d love to know a average number  of copies for Star fox and dk. Also my two cents I’d drop the 3,500 k on dk before a lot of other in  similar price range items

  • Yes price does not equal rarity in this case.

Kthrower and I were discussing the starfox one for example.

I believe it's printed somewhere in a Nintendo Power that only 2500 would be available. I guess that poses the question - how many did they actually send out? How many have been destroyed or thrown away and how many are in collectors hands. 2500 is a very small number for production - so seeing a popular franchise, first party Nintendo game, speciality cart and low print numbers... 1000-1200 for a cart seems cheap.

Not sure what the story is on production for dk comp, but the same could be said.

In terms of rarity and prices not matching - I get it on games that are not so popular, but we're talking VERY successful franchises on two games that people sometimes consider part of a set for a system that has gone nuts in prices over the last five years. The sky is the limit on these imho.
  • Holy balls. I should dig mine out.

Yeah, had a chance to get it for $900 from a gameshop, but passed about 2 years ago since even then I thought that was too much lol.
