Mega Man 7 - Variant or Repro

I picked this up a little while back, and I'm afraid the box & manuals may be counterfeits (reproductions). The box material is softer / more flimsy and significantly lighter in color than other SNES boxes I own. The manual also has a slightly rougher texture. I know Mega Man 7 was released towards the end of the Super Nintendo's life, and read that Mega Man X3 have different boxes so I'm hoping my gut feeling is wrong, but something just seems off. It's also worth noting there appears to be a variant of MM7 with boxes that do not contain "SOLD BY" above Capcom on the lower left front of the box, and the maual does not Mega Man toy advertisement on the back. I've found similar ones on eBay, but they don't have good pictures of the inner box material and obviously I can't hold/feel them for comparison.

If anyone can confirm this is a legit copy, I'd love to keep it as finding another copy in this condition for a reasonable price will be challeging. However if it's a repro as I suspect it's not worth anywhere close to what I paid. I did contact the seller to let them know my concern, and he replied that they were purchased used in the 90's prior to reproduction boxes/manuals being a thing, but I have no way to varify if he's telling the truth. Thanks in advance for your help.

  • That's a Latin American version, but I don't have one to compare it to.
  • It's a repro.. sell it to me for $10

Just kidding. Probably just inferior quality due to manufacturing processes in Mexico versus Japan. I think Megaman 7 was made in Mexico and it also has a cheap paper label on the cart instead of the quality glossy label that we wish it would have had

It says on the back of the box 83% recycled paper. How does that percentage compare to the other boxes you are comparing it to
  • Thanks guys. I guess it's a reasonable assumption that materials used for "Mexico and Latin America" games are different than "USA, Canada, Mexico, and Latin America". A quick google search on the difference between the two didn't turn up anything, so if there's any write ups out there someone could point me to I'd really appreciate it. Besides my curiosity to learn a bit more about them, can anyone say if there's a significant difference in value between the two?
  • Yeah, I have the same box you do. Just the Latin American release. In terms of value they are about the same, they don’t seem to sell for any more or less than the other. Oh, and all of the carts were made in Mexico.
  • smell it. a repro box wont have that old musty smell.
