USA Family Fun Fitness Pad + Athletic World/Manual Variant

I bought a Craigslist NES lot, sight unseen this week.  It came with 18 games, a power pad, a couple controllers and the console.  When I got to the meeting place, the guy pulls out this Family Fun Fitness pad instead of the power pad I was expecting.  I've checked on ebay and have found three sold listings, one for $25 (mine is in better shape) and two in the low $110's (mine doesn't have the box but these did), but these are all from overseas sellers and from what I understand are all from PAL consoles, if that makes a difference.

There is currently one NTSC FFF pad on ebay for $900.  I don't have any delusions that it's worth that (that one also comes in the box) but any ideas what a reasonable price is for this?

  • So in doing a bit more research on this forum, I came across http://nintendoage.com/forum/messageview.cfm?catid=29&threadid=176657  and looking at my initial ebay inquiry into the price of Athletic World I had no idea there were variants that made the price fluctuate.  I assume the game and manual in the pics below came with the FFF pad; any idea if the prices quoted in that thread are accurate?  Sounds like the game isn't worth much but the manual is worth quite a bit (relatively speaking).  Is this just because it mentions Stadium Events?  (color is off on the picture of the cover; there's no yellowing although there is a bit of dog-earing in the corner).

Holy crap, a non -1 Athletic World manual. I've never actually seen one before, it's as rare as a Stadium Events manual.

When Nintendo bought out this portion of Bandai, they completely changed Stadium Events into World Class Track Meet but they also slightly changed Athletic World. The cartridge remained the same but they changed the box from this:

    to this:

and added a -1 to the end of the item code (NES-AW-USA). Finding a box with the child runner on it or a manual without the -1 at the end are extremely rare, along the same lines as Stadium Events. There are also some sealed copies.

Although definitely rare, it is nowhere near the level of Stadium Events rare. I've seen several on Ebay over the years.

I got one in a lot last summer - sold it to a member here for $150.

The OP's is in better condition than mine was. Depending on the buyer you might get more - or possibly less. Niche expensive items can be difficult to move sometimes.

  • Thanks everyone for the replies. I'm very new to collecting retro systems and to be honest, my goal with the sale was to sell off the majority of the games with the thought that I could get the system for free and just buy the handful of the games I remembered playing as a kid or an everdrive (to introduce gaming to my kids---so far I've been able to do this with the SNES and Genesis), and I can't imagine using the power pad w/my kiddos, so the FFF pad and Athletic Events and the manual are probably going to allow me to do that with room to spare.

The only thing that bums me out is that the guy who sold this to me kept every piece of documentation for the other power-pad cable game they had.....Dance Aerobics. Sounds like keeping the Athletic World box would have been a better investment
  • FWIW, I put the FFF pad on ebay for $99 and it sold in about twenty minutes...so there's a new baseline of some sort for that particular item. Thanks again for everyone's help on here!
