Any way to polish dull cartridge connectors?

The Super Nintendo that I grew up with has a cartridge connector that looks extremely dull and has definitely lost its shine. Compared to another Super Nintendo I own, it defenitely needs some restoration. Here are some pics of my dull and shiny SNES cart connectors. I have been using sandpaper for this kind of issue, but it always leaves a pinkish tone from the sandpaper that I use. I want to avoid that with my SNES, so what should I use to make it look shiny again? Brasso or anything like it? Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated!

  • I sure as hell wouldn't use sandpaper. You try taking the connector out and boiling it in water? Usually gets all the gunk out.
  • Probably have to electroplate it to restore the original shine.
  • Strive for working electrical connections, not shininess. People who strive for shininess end up using abrasives that hurt plated metals in the long run.

I thinks he’s talking about the shielding around the pins and not the pins themselves.

  • Yeah that's what I meant. I'll be able to live with a dull cart connector if it takes a lot of effort to polish it up, but I'd like to polish the shieldings up if there is an accessible way.
  • EDIT.. misread the question.

Use a SNES pin port cleaning cartridge
  • I cleaned a 32X a while back. The metal was worn and slightly rusting. 2000 grit sand paper, followed up with Adams metal polish #1 and #2. Looked like new when finished, and would work the same on these.
