good suggestions for a 1080p tv for retro gaming

what sort of tv would you recommend for retro gaming? tv inches and model numbers are what i'm looking for.

  • https://www.rtings.com/tv/tests/inputs/input-lag probably any of these with less than 20ms of lag. but those numbers are only going to be accurate for HDMI signals so to get the lowest lag you'd need something like the AVS or a HDMI mod for any system you use.

analog inputs have to be scaled and the scalers in some TV's can add a half a second of lag.
  • Sony Trinitron CRT
  • If you're set on a 1080p screen, I'd look for a large computer monitor, rather than a "TV".

Generally computer monitors have less post-processing and better response times.
  • Why 1080p specifically? 240p retro games would integer scale up to a 4K display, but not 1080p.
  • Retro consoles not modded for HD output are going to look pretty bad on most modern HDTVs, no getting around that.  But I have an old Panasonic plasma from 2009 that IMO looks better than any LCD/LED TVs I've seen retro gaming on.

That said though, I would pay much more attention to rated input lag of the TV.  The input lag and/or latency is what really matters when gaming on modern TVs.
  • A sony pvm, but you would need consoles that output RGB natively, or mod your consoles. But its hard to beat clarity wise.
  • i use the framemeister with xbox and gamecube through hdmi mods for both consoles. my 4k tv is samsung and they do a good job of playing my modded hdmi 1080p n64 but it still would look better on a tv that doesn't stretch out the image, do you guys use different tvs for retro gaming or wut.
  • the problem with a computer monitor is not all of them have speakers.

You don't need it to have speakers.  You just need it to have RCA input.

Use the dedicated RCA sound channels to drive actual speakers...
