Any Chicago Store Recommendations???

Hey yall, it's been a while.

I'm in Chicago for the first time. Wondering if any members in the area or who've visited around here have any suggestions for spots with good prices/selection/customer service/etc.

  • There are many spots you can visit in and around Chicago. Here's a few.

1.) People Play Games - This place is on the north side of the city right by Wrigley Field. They have pretty much everything. A little pricey, but not outrageous. The staff is generally friendly and knowledgeable.

2.) The Exchange - They have a couple locations in the city. One is about a block away from People Play Games, so you can hit them both in one trip. They usually have a pretty decent selection. Pricing similar to above. This is a general used media store, so the staff may or may not know anything about video games depending on who you ask.

3.) Rockstar Music and Gaming - It is outside the city, but worth the drive. This is the best retail store I have found in the Chicago area. They have a good selection and the pricing is actually pretty good.

4.) Play 'N Trade - This is basically a Game Stop knock-off. They have closed several within the last couple years, so you may have to search to find if there are any open near you.

Happy hunting and enjoy our beautiful city!
  • The best shop I found was half game shop and half auto repair shop. It was awesome. Dont remember where it was tho as I was there in like 2011 and I havent found it again since.

One Play N Trade screwed me bad once.  I bought a bunch of PS1 games and got a good deal, but they didnt put any of the discs in the cases, so all I got were empty cases.  It was a Play N Trade very close to a Jewell-Osco in the downtown part of one of the burbs, but I guess thats on me for not checking the cases before I left.

Sounds like the one in Berwyn that closed a few years ago. Its about a block north of a Jewel on Harlem Ave. I also made the poor choice of doing business with them.

People Play Games and The Exchange are both solid choices. Employees are helpful and they had a ton of other random stuff I wish I had the money for.

If you are going to be around all weekend you should definitely hit up Headquarters in River North at night. Unlimited arcade games with a giant beer menu. Just don't freak out when you see the urinals are made out of NES carts.
  • I'm pretty sure People Play Games closed last year. Correct me ifI'm wrong.
  • If your willing to travel a bit the disc replay in highland, IN usually has a decent selection. You can always look at their Facebook to see if they got anything interesting.

Shoot. Google says it’s closed too. The picture on Google Maps looks awesome though. I wish I would have known about it before last year!
