Cheap RGB SCART cables

Is there a guide anywhere on what to avoid with these? I have a few and the connectors are extremely tight to where I feel like the AV port is going to break off while removing them. I also wanted to get one for my Genesis (model 1) and I keep seeing something about a "C pin" that supposedly doesn't work on NTSC consoles but can't find one in nearly the same price range that works on NTSC consoles. I use a SCART to BNC cable then just plug the male SCART connector into that from the console. Is it really worth $40 or so for indivudual cables over $6 dedicated cheap cables? Is there a way to loosen them up so I don't have to finaggle them out of the video connector?

  • Anecdotally, I have had very good luck with retrogamingcables out of the UK. The cables have worked very well, the prices have been reasonable, and the build quality seems to be there. I haven't attempted to use "budget" SCART stuff, so I can't speak to it.
  • I bought a Saturn SCART cable from console5 and it was garbage. It's not like it was unusable, but if you're going to mod your consoles and get upscaling gear, why would you cheap out on low quality cables? It introduced noise not present in my fancy cable from retro_console_accessories.

I second this. Retrogamingcables are really nice

Well that's the thing, I don't use upscalers or anything. I'm perfectly fine using my 13 inch CRT so paying $30-40 per console which I have many of seems like a bad investment if I can just find a way to loosen these $5 chinese cables up and use them with my $30 female SCART to BNC cable., that's the only issue they've given me. I mean I REALLY have to wedge them in and out of the connector and it's going to break off eventually. I may try sanding it down or something; wasn't sure if anyone else ran into this issue. I usually used s-video,  but while RGB looks slightly better I can say it's not worth the price over the 5 bucks.
  • The thing with the cheaper cables is it lacks shielding, usually just one ground wire,if I rebuild a cheap cable the first thing I do is ground pins 4,5,7,9,13,17,18 and 21 on the scart cable, that really helps.
