One quick thing to point out, I am not doing acetone vapor treatments for these things. For one, I'm using PLA so it may not work they way I want to similar ABS Plastic. Personally, I don't plan on throwing a label onto it, I think everyone would be better off NOT having these things looking like the real thing using a crappy low res picture on ebay, I intend on it looking different. As for washers with square or hexagonal holes, I didn't see anything at Lowes like that.
My original intent for securing the washers was to use glue to secure them, but it just so happens that it is a pain to put the washers in and friction just so happens to keep these secure. The problem with plastic threads to hold them down, is that they wear out easy, and its not the easiest thing to make threads that come out well in the 3d printer. if I can make my own threads outside of the printing process like the center hole that screws everything together, that's a different story.
Edit: Don't they also make these washers with square or hexagonal holes? Might be easier to secure if it can't turn.
It looks like something like that is available, but I wonder what the price difference is versus "traditional" flat washers (plus a nut)
I can't Imagine that they would be too much more expensive if I were to find them at a store. The washers I use now are about $0.35 a peice + Mich. tax. I can safely assume that they would be 10 cents more at the max.

Wearing out doesn't really matter, since you're only really using the threads once, to lock down the nut.
Also, the plastic is probably soft enough that cross-threading the nut (due to printer precision) is actually helpful (to lock it) rather than harmful, since you wouldn't ever take it apart again.
Though, that said, you could probably easily print a small flange on the centerpost that "clicks" the washer into place to begin with.

Do you have any actual hardware stores in your town? (rather than big box retailers like Lowes/HD?)
ACE (or your local equivalent) probably has about 50x the variety of hardware of this nature.
I do, its a little bit of a drive, as the closest thing is about 10 miles away. I will make the trip eventually. We had an Ace when I'm at my parents home which is nice because they have metric machine screws that I use for my 3d Printer also. Personally, I hate Lowes and Home depot, its just what was closest.

I dont' know if that's a safe assumption, when it comes to specialty hardware...
If they are limited in application, or only available in a specialty material (stainless steel), they could easily cost > $1 each.
If you do find them locally, let us know, because I'm genuinely curious.
I need to hit my local Ace, anyway, so I'll take a look this weekend and see what I turn up.
Yeah, the closest actual hardware store is about 20 minutes away with no traffic. So I will definitely hit it up over the weekend to better this little project. In the meantime, I am going to design some gyro holders for rob, that way more than one can be used at the same time, I think I am going to make it more in the style holders for the stack up blocks. After the Gyromite parts are made, I will hopefully be able to move on to stack up parts, this is the one I truly want to make stuff for, because like I said previously, they are more expensive and harder to get.

Did you ever make it to the hardware store? I was enjoying reading about the progress on this project for replacement parts.
Another reason to want a sticker on top is that the alternating black and white bands on the original gave some feedback about how fast the gyro was spinning. This allowed the player to make judgements about what to do/prioritize in the game and let them know how much time they had left after a certain maneuver. Of course, a sticker ring with that pattern will work as well as a sticker that covers the whole top, washer and all.
Oh yeah, I have a loose Stack Up with custom box now and I’m really tempted to order a cheaper Japanese copy for the accessories. I intended to weigh them and make replicas on my printer. I’m not very good at 3D modeling and most of my work has been tweaking other models, so it’s probably a pipe dream.

I could make the model for you if you give me some good measurments. I'll do it for free on the condition the models get released
Also, turns out they did it the same way as I did:

As far as I know the Famicom ROB parts and accessories work just the same.

I wish you the best of luck. Someone else stopped by a week or two ago to ask basically the same thing and got shut down, so I doubt anyone will be giving you any dimensions for the Stack Up blocks, Stack Up or Gyromite hands, etc. If you do happen to get something working I'd love a set of 3D printed Stack Up parts so I can actually give the game a shot. Good luck!

Hi! Just popping in to say Thank You! The discussion in this thread inspired me to design 3D files for ROB's hands after I bought mine a couple weeks ago.

Even gave us the original weight. Just need the hands/grips now. I think it's more prudent to wait for someone to list an orphan hand/grip.
